“great roadside cafe, unfortunately closed for the winter”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

Fun little cafe, good roadside food. We had the lobster taquitos and fish tacos. Food was way above the cafe average, approaching restaurant quality and inventiveness. And the view of Mono Lake is outstanding. Unfortunately, they closed today until next spring for the winter season ;-(

“As good as everyone says it is!”
Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

A trip to Mono Lake, June Lake or the Eastern Sierras just wouldn't be complete without lunch or dinner at the Whoa Nellie Deli. Casual atmosphere but delicious food at this folksy gas station, gift shop and cafe. The tri-tip steak sandwich on fresh roll was a huge piece of perfectly grilled lean beef. Their servings aren't stingy and the side of French fries kept my full all day. My better half enjoyed the chicken Caesar salad, and again, portion were ample. There were thick slices of chocolate fudge cake in the refrigerated display case, but unfortunately, since the meal portions are so generous, no one had room for dessert. Tables (booths) inside and picnic tables outside on the lawn with great view of Mono Lake.
Like many businesses in the Eastern Sierras, Whoa Nellie closes for the winter Sunday, October 27th. Pity.

“Whoa Nellie - good food and gas!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Tioga Gas Mart & Whoa Nellie Deli is conveniently located on the 120, just west of 395. It's close to Lee Vining and a great place to eat, fill up the tank or pick up a souvenir or two. It may not be 4 star dining, but it's good food and reasonably priced for the area.

“A must stop just for the experience”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Fun place in a Mobil gas station. Much has been written about Whoa Nellie so I'll just refer you to those much more detailed reviews. The food was great ...ambiance......well, that's not what you go there for if you know what I mean.

“Great burgers too!”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Travelled from Yosemite to visit Mono Lake/Bodie and on the return back, passed this gas station/eatery and realized what we almost did - so we turned the rental around and headed back. (We had stopped at Lee Vining and was not impressed with the food or the selection and decided to hit the road - Tioga Pass that is.) It was one of the highlights for the day. Because of the reviews we read on TA, we were tempted by one of those fish tacos but just couldn't wrap our brains around it. BUT - The bacon cheeseburger and fries that we did get were AWESOME and big enough to share! (And the price was right too.) We would highly recommend this place - it is definitely worth a stop.
