We live in the Bay Area but wanted a birthday getaway for the weekend or a night. We are pretty familiar with most of the lodging options along the SF Peninsula up into SF. We were interested in waterfront and when we checked around the prices were, honestly, unreasonable. We are Marriott owners so we looked at all of Marriott properties and we, like some previous reviewers, also had a "free night" certificate. We had never really thought about staying in Larkspur. We thought it would be too busy near the Ferry Landing and the area is a thoroughfare to get to the Richmond Bridge. However, when we Google mapped it, we saw that it was set in from the main road so we decided to take a chance. Bottom line: we loved staying there. It is not waterfront lodging but you can get to the water in less than 5 minutes (maybe 3 minutes!).
We are hikers and if any of you out there are looking to hike Mt. Tam or its watershed area, this is a great option for lodging. We arrived at 12:00 (much earlier than check-in time) and they were willing to let us check in early (although don't expect this--it was just a nice gesture on Marriott's part to allow that). However, we wanted the 3rd floor so we decided to do our hike and then return. We hiked Bald Mountain near Fairfax (highly recommended for a fantastic view of the entire Bay Area). We returned and we had a smooth check-in. The staff was very friendly and accommodating
They were renovating the entire hotel and we were staying in an area that had completed renovation so we were in a new hotel room. It was clean and everything was new. It was quiet (a Saturday/Sunday) even though we saw workman on Saturday--we could not hear them at all. Anyway, I don't know when the renovations end but we requested a quiet room and Marriott delivered.
We walked across the street where there was several restaurants: a Brewery, Thai, FreshMex and Meat Deli restaurant. If you like quiet, go with the Thai! There is also a Starbucks. The Courtyard also serves Starbucks coffee in the lobby. We didn't use the Bistro in the Marriott but it is nice to have that option.
Anyway, this Courtyard was PERFECT for our needs and we concur with many of the previous reviews that it is ideally located virtually on SF Bay. The Ferry is a 5 minute walk at most, and it is near amazing Marin County hiking areas.
We are rating this a '4' simply because it is undergoing renovation.
