Recommended by an employee of a local hotel we were expecting a special evening in an out of the way and old fashioned steak house. Entering through the bar we found a counter full of local folk all having a great time but looking at us to see if we belonged. Walking on we came to two fairly large and sparsely furnished dining rooms. The first bad sign was that the wine were ordered was not in stock, although alternatives were offered of what was claimed to be better quality wine at the same price of the wine ordered, although the alternate brands were unknown to us. Then the two of us ordered prime rib (apparently a house specialty) one medium, one rare. Second bad sign was that both were presented to the same degree of doneness. The meat was not succulent and was closer to cold than hot. The third bad sign was that getting water refills was a challenge as we were seated in the furthest corner of the room furthest away from the bar area. But the fourth and ultimate bad sign was that the wait staff were anything but friendly and personable – in fact essentially cold and unwelcoming, as if serving us was something they had to do not wanted to do. We could have spent the $95 (including a modest tip) better elsewhere and next time we are in the area that is what we will do.
