“Love the open-hearth oven in use”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Mario's is a very nice Italian restaurant in the heart of Lakeside. Serving good food with good service is their trademark. I like their open-hearth wood-fired oven where the great tasting pizzas and excellent foccacia bread is made. They offer a wide variety of Italian dishes and nothing I've had has left me less than satisfied. The atmosphere is quiet and the walls are full of interesting memorabilia. It's a nice place for families or couples. Prices are reasonable, too!

“A CHARGE FOR EVERYTHING”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Mario's food was good, but little charges for everything kept appearing. If you wanted the soup of the day ( fish Chowder that day) instead of Minstrone soup $2.00 extra. White sauce instead of red on side pasta $2.00 extra. Vegetables on side instead of pasta $2.00 extra....it just went on and on.....also we had an entertainment book coupon and the key ring card for it and they decided after we'd eaten and ordered that if we didnt have the actually card and not just the key ring card they would not honor the coupon

“Casual dining, large portions, meh service, but fair prices”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

If you're a fan of really good bread then head on over to Mario's. The one really outstanding item that was brought to our table was the bread. We couldn't get enough. It is simply addicting.

Mario's provides large portions of good quality food. The seating isn't the most comfortable and the interior could use a face lift, but the food is good and the prices are fair.

Our waitress that evening clearly had other things on her mind. We were the only group in the restaraunt and the service was lackluster. Drinks went empty, didn't check back to see if we needed anything until we were finished.

We went for dinner so we did not sample the buffet which is on offer M-F from 11:00am - 2pm. We will make a point to go back and give it a try. It's worth a second visit.

“Great Italian in the middle of Lakeside- who knew?”
Reviewed November 30, 2011

We go to Mario's often for the M-Th Special: salad, bread, pasta, lasagna and a small pizza for about $21- the best deal in town. The house wines are fine. Other menu items are also very good. The baked ziti is excellent. Salads are large and have field greens, not iceberg (except for the antipasto salad). The weekday buffet lunch is very tasty and a deal- try it if you're in the area and want a break from fast food or the ubiquitous tacos shops around. Service is friendly but not always fast, so be patient. Just sit back and enjoy the bread.

“Love the foccacia bread and excellent wood-fired pizza!”
Reviewed September 5, 2006

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the moderate price range. The service is very good, friendly and personable. The food is plentiful and delicious. Everything is hot and fresh when served. The bottomless bread basket is a treat as the foccacia is made fresh daily/hourly in the wood-fired oven - same as the pizzas. Sprinkle on some olive oil and enjoy! My wife and I enjoy sharing a half-order of antipasto before our Mario's Deluxe pizza. With some Spumoni after, it makes a great meal and we always take home half of our pizza!
