“1st time back in four years”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

This was my first stay in four years....and i have to say it is still as nice as i remember it...employees were friendly, casino was clean as always. I only have one complaint, yes i am a smoker and i requested a smoking room, which we did get the first night, we checked in and dropped our things in the room and were gone most of the evening...when we finally returned to the room i noticed the room was heavy in smoke smell...we just hit the bed for the night since we drove in...well the next morning my wife and i had a horrible headache from the smoke smell...my wife doesnt smoke but she usually is fine when we get a smoking room....both of us were miserable the entire day! usually any hotel i step into ....you really dont smell the smoke...i had to ask to change rooms that morning...i was so stuffy and with headache that i left and orthopedic pillow in the room but when i called to inquire (hard to miss since it had a green case over it..and the casino has off white and it was slightly bigger than a travel pillow) no one in house keeping ever saw it. Needless to say i was not happy since the pillow was not cheap and it was out of pocket expense for me. Other than that it was fine...i just wont request a smoking room again....it was like walking into a smoke filled bar.

We went for a two night trip with our 6 yr old daughter and didn't expect too much since we travel to las vegas 3-4 times a year in the nicer hotels like four seasons.

All i can say is that we were all blown away by their business model!!

We spent the days at legoland and balboa park with all their museums and in the evening my wife and i took turns going downstairs to the casino after our daughter went to bed. If you have children, it's best to ask the staff how to avoid going through the casino with your children. Our daughter loved the walk outside the property which includes a beautiful rose garden, a sunset garden, and a lake surrounded by a nice golf course with plenty of wildlife that kids always love to see.

There is a medium sized pool that is nicely private and small arcade on the third floor.

The casino itself is pretty large with plenty of games that even las vegas doesn't have yet. The games = definitely looser than anywhere else we have been including the locals casinos in las vegas and definitely better than the strip. We thought the advertising of loosened slots would be misleading, but they definitely let you play a lot longer and the majority of their slots are labeled as loosened. If you can get on a "manufacturer's best payback" machine, stick with it, have fun (win or lose), and earn a LOT of club points!!!

The staff is where barona really stands out. I'm not kidding..... i'm almost certain that they invested a lot in customer service training or something. We've all experienced poor customer service, especially from younger staff that don't enjoy what they are doing, but at barona, even the younger employees act as if they have a stake in the business. It was really refreshing to see an entire staff determined to make sure every patron was having a good time. You have to experience it to understand what i'm saying. They have a system where each staff member can expand their duties to keep patrons happy and it is a great system.

The food is definitely above average with a lot of variation, though we didn't try the buffet, the line was always packed. Quick bite or nice meal, they have it all.

The only negative i can find is that i'm apparently not the only one that appreciates the looser games and outstanding customer service. Friday and Saturday night was packed liked you wouldn't believe! It's a big place, but it almost seems like they should expand again, lol.

I've been to almost all the other indian casinos in san diego and palm springs, barona is by far the only real stand-out and if it wasn't for their farther location from los angeles, they would certainly take all the business, i'm sure of it.

Even then, i have to weigh the extra drive time from LA but if it is 2 hrs to barona versus 1 hr to pechanga or 1.5 hours to valley view / pauma/ rincon / pala, etc.... I'm definitely going to drive the extra hour for a much better experience and longer play time at barona. For those who live in san diego, it's a no brainer and that's obvious by how crowded barona gets.

The hotel itself is very nice, 4 diamonds so that should tell you a lot. You can stay at the hotel and not even go into the casino if you choose not to. Very quiet, clean, nice staff. All the ammenities you need including free wi-fi !

Overall, a great example to other casinos in the area of how to stand out!!!

Recently just visited agian, Love this place, you always feel like a winner !! Win , Lose or Draw
The customer service has been excpetional !! I will keep all tripadvisor members updated, if service were to drop. This place is really amazing, ALWAYS USE YOUR BARONA CARD !!
Special comments for "TROY" if you have any problems see him, he will make sure all your needs are met, he is awesome.. For you non smokers there are plenty area's for you to play without smoke. I have been to PALA, Pechanga and Valley View Casino's none of them beat the games and service of this place, and I am a very picky person. Next time you are in San Diego check this place out, you will not regret it. Pool & Jacuzzi always clean and working everytime I go. For those who have walking issues stay try to get a room on the 2000 floor, just note it will be noisy in the hallway, but steps away from the casino. Food is fantastic. If you just want to relax and not gamble they have a beautiful pond and golf course with sitting benches. I will be back here again soon, they always treat me right, I have been coming here for a few years now & it seems they have only gotten better with time.
Thank you Barona !!

First getting a room is nearly impossible if you have not dumped large amounts of money there in the past and then when you do they treat you like second class citizens. Was told to stay somewhere else unless I was willing to spend a lot more money in the casino.

only 390 rooms - well appointed, clean, amenities, in dbl bedroom one is firm and the other is soft, handicap rooms, free scooter for the old folks, but the food is great! bahn min sandwiches are the best deal at $3.50@, even chinese take away is good - kal-bi ribs looked good! the first nite of play was not so great but last two were weiners! no booze casino expect in your own room. no fee atm, it is a bit out of the way to find so use a gps. and sign up for players card they give a lot of stuff away, besides your donation to the nation. wish they had a free shuttle to their tribal museum from the hotel.

Room Tip: 2nd flr leads to along hall way to the casino, pool is one 1st, kiddie room and gym is on 2nd. highe...

I just went to Barona for the first time because it is close to San Diego and the drive is a pleasant one. I found the staff to be the most friendly of all the Indian Casinos that I visit in the area. The selection of slot machines is the best of any of the area casinos. The only reason I did not give Barona 5 stars is because I do like to drink some beer when I gamble and Barona does not serve liquor in the gaming area. I understand they do have an extensive wine list in the restaurants. I did not know this before I went.

We are planning a golden wedding anniversary so we scheduled a tour. It was first class all the way and best rates in the area. The Casino and Hotel complex has a beautiful chapel too. Amazing, I do not know why people go to Las Vegas to get married. This is more beautiful, affordable, more fun, and its right here. You can get married, have the reception here, you can enjoy the gaming in the casino, and you can stay in the great hotel....so there is no need to book separate venues for the parts of the wedding. And if you run out of money Barona gives you free ATM...ain't that the best? Why if you want food while you play slot machines you get that too. The buffet is outstanding too. Barona Casino has come a long ways...Oh, yeah....the girls at the Rewards booth are the best in San Diego....friendly, smiling, cooperative, a pleasure to deal with, a lot better than another casino nearby.
