We have been comming to Skylark Shores every year and have the best vacation of our choice.
It certainly is more than just a motel. They have sprowling lawns with mature trees. We get our own pick-nik table BBQ with amazing lake views. Rooms facing the lake are most spacious with awsome views. Kitchen facility is very useful for us to make our own preparations.

The play ground is always filled with happy families and quiet readers. We like the atmosphier this resort has to offer. Fishermen by the piers are fun to watch.

Lakeport is the nicest city on the Clear Lake and there is so much to enjoy here. Largest natural lake in California is no little no where town. There is great Bass fishing, Golfing, Hiking\biking and most desireable wine tasting with all the wineries around the lake.

We just love this place and the staff at Skylark does take great pride of what they have to offer. This is a place to relax and enjoy simple beauty.

We have visited this hotel several times over the last years and have always had a very good experience, so I don't recognize the bad experience other reviewers have had. The hotel's location by the lake is very beautiful, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and clean, and you can use the free equipment to make your own barbecue on the big lawn right by the lake.
So we will definitely return if we have the chance to visit the area again.

I travel to Clearlake several times a year from out of state. Sometimes to fish tournaments but other times to take a family trip to the lake. I've stayed in places all around the lake in the past, from motels to rental homes, but now I only stay at Skylark. The staff have always been friendly and courteous to us. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. They aren't musty and don't smell like smoke! The cabins are nice when you have a need for more than 2 beds or separate rooms. If you have a lakefront room and leave your boat on the dock you can see it from your room. They don't charge for overnight dock space like most places do. Just outside their side gate is a City boat ramp which makes it extremely convenient. Dining places are all within walking distance too.

All of the motels on the lake have been around quite awhile, including Skylark. Several others are run down and are in various states of disrepair. On my most recent trip to Skylark I noticed they've painted the exterior to all the buildings and were replacing carpet in a few rooms. While they still have a few minor repairs/ugprades to make (bedding, towels, etc), it's nice to see they are making the effort.

We put on a 15-20 boat bass tournament every year and could go anywhere on the lake. We choose Skylark. As a tournament angler the only other thing I'd like to see is dedicated power outlets where the boats and vehicles are parked.

If you want a clean, quiet, conveniently located motel with several amenities right on the lake, stay at Skylark.

Room Tip: The downstairs lakefront rooms open right up to the lawn and the lake.

We really do appreciate your kind comments about the courteous and helpful staff and the fact that we are trying to make improvements around the property. This is a continuing process and we won't be satisfied until the upgrades have been implemented. We are also extremely grateful that you have chosen us for the housing during your Bass tournaments. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, rest assured we will work hard to give you the best service and provide the best accommodations. Thank you so much, Audrey Gonzalez, General Manager

I'm a reasonably tolerant person who has traveled all over the world. I've stayed in grungy hostels and roadside inns. I was compelled to write a review of Skylark because it was one of the most overpriced and misrepresented places I have ever been to. First, the word "resort" is a COMPLETE fallacy. The Skylark is a motel off Main Street in the small town of Lakeport, CA. The "poolside" rooms they advertise on the internet can be described that way only because you can walk through a PARKING LOT to the pool. Because, yes, the pool is in the parking lot. So, if you want to swim on the side of the road while the Skylark staff is walking around and driving around you, just go ahead.

The room we stayed in was big, dark, and old. Yes, the door opened to the gorgeous lake, but since it was adjacent to another room where a family was staying, shouting (and continuously smoking), we had no desire to go out there. The bedspreads were disgusting -- old, frayed and limp. I could only imagine the seedy things that had happened under them. The mattress was lumpy, the coffeepot didn't work, and there was no hair conditioner. The carpet was soiled. Even the chairs were sagging as we set up the computers to search for another place to stay. The only good thing I can say is that it was quiet.

My last comment is on the service. The person who checked us in was very abrupt and didn't even tell us where the room was located. He was rushed. The person who checked us out knew I was angry about the conditions. She asked me to explain what what wrong but became hostile and defensive when I explained why we left early. Overall, I think this "resort" caters to people who want to park a boat and swim and don't care about much else. I would never go there again unless I had to.

We stayed at Skylark Shores Resort for one night. The facility occupies a spacious lakefront site with several buildings, some of which appeared more than 60 years old. Upon check-in we were informed that our room had been upgraded to a second floor lake view. Nice! The room wasn't quite ready, so we spent some time wandering on the extensive, lush lawn studded with oaks, and the waterfront with several docks. There was a small but rocky beach area, too.

We climbed a somewhat rusty metal and concrete staircase to the second floor of our building. When we entered the room, we were greeted by the odor of room freshener spray. The room was quite large, and the carpet appeared new. The furniture was well-worn oak, badly in need of refinishing, and the two wooden chairs were upholstered in vinyl.

The bathroom was 1950's and 60's vintage, and had never been updated. It featured a square wash basin in a tile counter which reminded me of the ones in my parents' house built in 1952. It was clean, excepting encrusted dirt in the corners of the window frame and the baseboards. The toilet was 47 years old, according to the date under the tank lid.

A small refrigerator in the room contained an ice compartment that had not been defrosted (or likely cleaned) in years. There was two inches of frost encrustation. Yuck!

The bed was a story in itself. Beneath the bed spread lay a blanket with an obvious cigarette burn. The sheets were very well worn, thin, and with black stains in places. Yuck again. The mattress was rock-hard, and it was possible to feel the spring locations with our hands. My hips hurt when lying on my side. The only way to achieve even a modicum of comfort was to lie on my back. This was by far the worst bed we have ever experienced, especially at the price we paid. There is no excuse for this.

At 6:00 a.m., we were awakened by a guy with a bull horn standing on the docks shouting to fishermen who were about to participate in a fishing tournament. This was the icing on the cake.

We paid $142 to stay at this place, which was way too much. By far, this was a very expensive, and extremely marginal accommodation. I cannot recommend it.

We are sorry that your stay was not up to your complete satisfaction. We are glad that you enjoyed your upgrade to a second floor lakefront room which are larger and more spacious and that you enjoyed the lush green lawn area. We are in the process of replacing many beds in the Lakefront area and perhaps it was a new bed which would be firmer. As far as fisherman getting up early, we do have tournaments throughout the year, and they are city wide affecting all of the hotels so although we are sorry you were awakened early, it is probably going on throughout the city. We will be happy to inform you when Fishing Tournaments are happing. We thank you for your input and have informed Housekeeping and Maintenance, so they may correct any problems. what a reasonable Gem for a quick easy getaway. If you find yourself asking for a quiet town and a slower pace of California life, try Lakeport. It does offer those fancy resorts and Bed n Breakfast places around the lake , but Skylark is in the nicest location close to everything , and their parklike boat dock grass area is a wonderful place to look across the lake under the trees and fall asleep.. Dont overlook this part of California if you just want to get lost away from the cities.....

Room Tip: ask for a lakeview room on a single level across the driveway directly next to the office. there are...

We arrived on a cold day, and the staff had heated our room to a cozy temperature prior to our arrival. The complementary bottle of wine was great, and from a local winery. I wish I remember what it was. The curtains were open to a night time view of the lake which was stunning, as was the morning sunrise. Unreal, really. Surreal. It looked like a Martian Landscape...spectacular.
Large clean rooms and friendly staff. I look forward to going back.
