There's really not much to do in these areas of Mt Shasta unless you are fishing or hiking, boating..since we had a short trip, we came to see the caves. It was nice and interesting but not spectacular in a mind blowing sort of way, just nature stuff. A lot of people on the tour. Felt a little claustrophic

“we were just 2 couples!”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

it was a hot day in September ( the reading fire exactly started...) and visiting a cool cave was a great idea! getting there was easy coming from the mountain, but be careful on the way from the hwy to the caverns because it's a dangerous winding and narrow road. we were just 2 couples so it was totally a private tour... everyone before me already warned regarding the way you have to go after the ticket purchase and especially the way back so it's true. there are a lot of stairs and a bit of walking up hill, but nothing you can't do if you take a break on your way. at the end of the stairs you get to a boat that takes you across lake shasta to the other side and then a bus takes you up to the caverns. since it's owned by a private your bus is the only one their. the caverns are of course amazing, although I've seen few before in other countries. the cool thing is that they are still exploring the cave and find out new paths (not open to the public). it was a cool experience to end our trip to northern California.

“Amazing !!!”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

We really enjoyed this attraction in Mt. Shasta. You can buy tickets online or by reaching there. Gift shop is really good and staff is friendly. Boat ride to the other side of the lake is very scenic. Took lots of pics. Take jacket with you if going in Jan-Feb. wear walking shoes. Bus ride to caverns is scenic too. Tour guide was really funny, knowledgeable and friendly. Caverns are amazing and worth a visit. Very beautiful lake.
Lots of walking to do. Good exercise.Take water bottle with you.

Go for It.

“Great experience”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

My husband and I visited the caverns. The weather was beautiful around 64F. There is a lot of walking so wear comfy shows, layering is best as because of the walking you will warm up. Its a long walk down to the lake to get on board the catamaran. Very comfortable short ride over to the other side. Shuttle bus was ready to take us to the caves. Once inside the caves, you will be amazed with all the formations. The tour guide "James" was very informative. We had a good time. There is a lot of climbing inside, at the end of tour you have to walk down a stretch of stairs, short thin steps... If you have weak knees, or don't like stairs then not a good idea.
Overall we are very pleased with the tour. $24 per adult. We arrived there very early and picked the items we wanted to buy to avoid the lines at the end of tour. Backpacks are not allowed during the tour.

“good place to see if you are in the area”
Reviewed December 24, 2013

we were house boating on Shasta lake and stopped by to see the cavern. it's a good place to take the kids to. compare to other caves we've seen, this one is OK but not amazing. it's a nice change of routines for our week on the lake.
