“Great place to go and relax.”
Reviewed September 15, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Location is a good mix of being remote yet close to Montignac so it's easy to go and get anything you need. The house is really nice and able to hold a large amount of people very comfortably. The rooms are a good size also. If you didn't fancy sunbathing the badminton net, swimming pool, field and table tennis table meant you could fill your time really easily.

Dave and Brenda were fantastic aswell with helping you with anything you needed from getting food, finding a place to eat in Montignac or planning days out!

“perfect in every way”
Reviewed June 14, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

we stayed at le four a sel for a group family holiday at the start of June and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Dave & Brenda are both fantastic hosts and willing to help in any way they can.
The house was perfect for our needs with the group including families with small kids, teenagers and some without kids. the outdoor covered terrace area hosted pretty much all of our dinners and was perfect for getting everyone together. The place is big enough that you can split into seperate groups if you want but has plenty of areas where everyone can get together too. The kids loved the pool and looking out for lizards and the men were in their element with the fishing on site :-). Thank you Brenda & Dave for looking after us so well, we will definitely be back

“An excellent family place for holidays in one of France[--]s finest area”
Reviewed September 9, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent 2 excellent weeks at Villa Hibiscus at Le four a Sel ,This large house was a fine stay, in a very pleasant place near the river with beautiful trees. Our children got on very well with the other guest's children and they all spent a very good stay, with so much place to play and a great feeling of freedom. This area of Dordogne is very charming and interesting at the same time, and we spent our stay in visits of castles and passionating visits of prehistoric places. Our hosts, Brenda ans David, didn't know what to do to make our stay pleasant and everything easy. As French, we are very used to gites rentals, and Le Four a Sel is one of the nicest we ever experienced. We highly recommand it !

“Lovely location but owners frequently on site”
Reviewed August 14, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

A group of 27 of us hired all three properties here for 2 weeks. The location in Dordogne is great- surrounded by lots of corn fields and Montignac very close. Property was in many ways good for our big group but many of us felt the bedding, including linen, was of low quality. The main problem we felt was that the owners were often on site wandering through the communal courtyard at various times of day and night. We felt this was a constant reminder that we were guests rather than allowing the nice fantasy that we 'owned' the place for a short time. We felt this was intrusive and as a result would not return and would not recommend if you are going as one big group and plan to book all 3 properties as we did. Part of our deposit was with held as we were told 5 towels were missing- we disputed the total number of towels issued in first instance. (written by Chris Tervit. 38yr old male in party)

The lead person in this group sent me her feedback via email after their stay (and I am quoting it here):
“We all enjoyed very much our fortnight at Le Four a Sel. Location-wise Le Four a Sel couldn’t be bettered - rural yet close enough to Montignac to allow us to walk in across the fields or along the back roads, and very handy for the shops and supermarche. There was plenty accommodation for our party & all the garden area(with loads of tables & chairs),the courtyard & swimming pool were great for the children. We especially liked the covered eating area which, as you know, we were able to use all the time given that we were blessed with such good weather. Le Four a Sel is a great property in an excellent location and all in all for our large family, we had a superb holiday”.
This shows their high level of satisfaction with Le Four a Sel.
We found several issues regarding the state of the property following their departure which we needed to bring to their attention , which unfortunately has now clouded their view of their stay. One was the missing towels. They disputed the total number of towels issued to them only when we informed them there were 5 missing when we cleaned the houses after their departure. Yet no one mentioned this either on the day after their arrival or at any point during their 2 week stay.
Booking all 3 houses allows the use of all the onsite facilities, without having to share these with other guests not in the group . However, as we live onsite , we will be around & visible performing tasks occasionally to maintain the 15 acre grounds (such as cleaning the pool ,watering plants , mowing the lawn etc..) In addition, there are private buildings/barns within the complex where we store the tools necessary to run the business and to which we need occasional access.
Being onsite means , should we be asked, we are on hand to give you advice, helpful tips/suggestions , share our knowledge of the local area, assist if you need someone to speak French, and deal promptly with problems that may arise.
