My friend from VT and I sojourned to Newport and Laguna Beaches to see and walk and photograph the So Cal coast and views of the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean while enjoying some of the finer resorts and restaurants in the area. Montage was recommended to us and we arrived at the quasi-Craftsman style lodge around noon; the sun was high in the sky and it shimmered on the water. This place is a find at a price so bring the credit cards and cash. It is sublime in its beauty and its views of the water and the gardens on the property. We had a spectacular lunch prepared specially for us and the cheese chef came out with my plate of a memorable brie (she wrote down the name but I can't find her card) it was yet another creamy, delicious step up from St. Andre and the other one I loved was the Humboldt Fog goat cheese . They were served with specially baked crackers and breads and little bowls of jams, grilled onions, etc., which seems to be a new way of serving cheeses as an appetizer or small side.
Then since it was kind of a slow week day, she bought out another dish of various cheeses she selected and it was mostly all wonderful. It is pricey but the service is spectacular along with the views and seating. Afterward you can walk out into the lawns and gardens and then take the stairs down to the beach all the while taking multitudes of photographs of all the various flowers, bushes, CA greens and blooms, the water, the beach, and on and on....an extremely pleasant few hours!!! Don't miss it. It's on the beach side of Hwy. 1 or PCH...go carefully, you can miss the turn!
