Surf & Sand Resort
Ranked #7 of 22 Hotels in Laguna Beach
Reviewed February 19, 2007

We stayed at the Surf and Sand for five nights beginning on Valentine's Day.

After reading some of the previous comments, I was skeptical about staying there. But we had an excellent experience.

The location is unbelievable - right at the ocean's edge, with all rooms having a balcony overlooking the water.

We did not find any of the previously posted comments to be true. The staff was very cordial and helpful; the food and drinks were first rate; the room was beautiful; and there were some nice touches that made the hotel seem even more welcoming, such as an ihome in the room, a note left in your room every night informing you about the time for high and low tide the next day, free coffee and LA Times every morning, free bottled water as you depart, and tiny seashells provided for you to include in your letters home.

The $27 a night for parking was steep, but we can live with that, given the luxurious and relaxing time provided by this first rate hotel.

You really have to look hard to find something to complain about.

We'd go again in a second.

Great hotel......! Very quiet......! Excellent location! Have a fresh rasberry mojito in the bar! Great nachos as well! Had room service and the pasta was fabulous! Walked down to the Orange Inn for coffee and freshly made muffins! It's next to Taco Bell. Avoid booking spa appointments first thing in the morning...staff not quite ready. Best to book after 10:00 AM once they fire up steam room.....etc. Book rooms next to spa or pool if you plan on using the jacuzzi or spa.......otherwise......a hassle to walk to. great walks on beach.......get a mojito to go....bartenders great!

We had our wedding here, and it couldn't have been any better! The service was amazing, food was great, the resort was very welcoming-we had so many compliments on the entire wedding from everyone. They were very flexible planning everything, as we planned it from Alaska. After everything, We fell asleep listening to the waves crashing directly beneath our room. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stayed at the Surf and Sand the 3rd weekend in July. It was "unseasonably" warm (so the locals said) for that time of year. The hotel room was nice. They had been recently redone so all of the furnishings were new and updated. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and a private balcony but......the no air conditioning made our stay miserable. We could not spend anytime in the room other than to get ready and sleep. There was one lousy ceiling fan and one box fan to cool the room and we had to sleep with the balcony doors wide open (which did not do a lot of good other than the to listen to the rude people playing and screaming in the ocean at 1 AM).
The food and drinks were horrible at the resort. We had to send several drinks back and chose to eat Subway from across the street rather than spend $50 on another bad lunch.
I had wanted to stay at this hotel for years and was highly disappointed. With all the modern conveniences of the other hotels in the area I would definitely stay some where else.

It is a beautiful place. We stayed in The Towers.Room was gorgeous, comfortable bed, nice bathroom..champagenme and choclates on arrival.
We went in November thinking the no A/C wouldn't be an issue as I had read from other posts.
Yea..it was. The sun beats into your room making it a hot box.I had to get ready in the late afternoon to go to a party. I looked like I had run 17 miles!
The shower leaked badly! We told the front desk several times. They are all very sweet but sorta weird. Everybody says 'yes..certainly.." but, does nothing.
It is a good hotel don't get me wrong.But, for over $500.00 a night.I don't think so.For $300- a night....okay
Nice bar that over looks a beautiful beach as does the resturant splashes.
The valet parking got very old! Everytime you left you had to hand th kid $5.00.
I think I will stay at The montage, The St. Regis or maybe the snotty Ritz( Don't like Ritz-way too pretenious)

First off, the staff at the front desk is very rude and not helpful AT ALL. I would probably get better and friendlier service at Motel 6. They messed up my reservations for the amount of days I wanted to stay, then didn't even offer to help out. The rooms are nice, but if you want climate control, open the window and turn on the fan. Definatly not worth the money, go somewhere else. The rude, ignorant, unhelpful front desk ruined the whole experience.
