Writing my first review here because this place deserves a shoutout - we had such a wonderful time there but also felt the need to share the importance of getting the right staff to help you out at check-in, because for us it made a HUGE positive difference on our trip.
For my birthday, my boyfriend planned a surprise getaway to Laguna beach for the 2 of us. Driving into Inn at Laguna Beach we were excited seeing that it's right on the coast facing the ocean. We met 3 of their staff at check-in - Rachel, John and 1 more guy who we can't recall his name, but ironically was the guy who helped us with check in, and set the wrong precedent for our stay. He told us that he was placing us into "his favorite room," room 101, which we were curious to see why. Turns out room 101 is on the lowest floor, underneath the lobby (as in underneath all street view), in the corner facing a wall. You would have to stick your head right up against the balcony window in order to see that tiny slice of the seaview on the side. It's the last room on the floor, probably the worst ocean view room of the entire hotel. Having paid extra to book an ocean view room, we were pretty let down (and of course very surprised why this was his "favorite room"). So we headed back to the check-in counter and asked if there was any other room available on the higher floors. Rachel was super helpful and upgraded us to a beautiful suite on the 5th floor. Room 507 has a giant balcony that overlooks the ocean, and was absolutely breathtaking - arguably the best room in the entire hotel.
We had such a great stay there thanks to the room Rachel upgraded us to. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and genuine (well, perhaps except the first guy that checked us in). We liked the room so much we actually decided to stay in for dinner to watch the sunset (with pizza!). We enjoyed soaking in the sun on the balcony and falling asleep to the sound of waves at night. Thanks Rachel (and John, who was also super helpful) for making my birthday getaway such a great one!
