“"My favorite room is 101" (!?)”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Writing my first review here because this place deserves a shoutout - we had such a wonderful time there but also felt the need to share the importance of getting the right staff to help you out at check-in, because for us it made a HUGE positive difference on our trip.

For my birthday, my boyfriend planned a surprise getaway to Laguna beach for the 2 of us. Driving into Inn at Laguna Beach we were excited seeing that it's right on the coast facing the ocean. We met 3 of their staff at check-in - Rachel, John and 1 more guy who we can't recall his name, but ironically was the guy who helped us with check in, and set the wrong precedent for our stay. He told us that he was placing us into "his favorite room," room 101, which we were curious to see why. Turns out room 101 is on the lowest floor, underneath the lobby (as in underneath all street view), in the corner facing a wall. You would have to stick your head right up against the balcony window in order to see that tiny slice of the seaview on the side. It's the last room on the floor, probably the worst ocean view room of the entire hotel. Having paid extra to book an ocean view room, we were pretty let down (and of course very surprised why this was his "favorite room"). So we headed back to the check-in counter and asked if there was any other room available on the higher floors. Rachel was super helpful and upgraded us to a beautiful suite on the 5th floor. Room 507 has a giant balcony that overlooks the ocean, and was absolutely breathtaking - arguably the best room in the entire hotel.

We had such a great stay there thanks to the room Rachel upgraded us to. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and genuine (well, perhaps except the first guy that checked us in). We liked the room so much we actually decided to stay in for dinner to watch the sunset (with pizza!). We enjoyed soaking in the sun on the balcony and falling asleep to the sound of waves at night. Thanks Rachel (and John, who was also super helpful) for making my birthday getaway such a great one!

Room Tip: pick the higher floors, definitely made the trip

Dear Rachel M

Happy Belated Birthday!!! I am very happy to read that you spent such a special day with us, and I am more excited to read how the staff treated you and your boyfriend. I am lucky that I am able to come to work each day and work with great people like Rachel, John and the rest of the staff. They truly care about every guest stay and they do there very best to make sure all of our guest are happy.

Next time instead of ordering pizza you should try our in room dining menu as we partner with Las Brisas. You can have there great food in the comfort of your room, or on the balcony. As you pointed out room 507 does have the large wrap around balcony with some of the best views in Laguna so I am happy you were able to enjoy it.

I hope you return to Laguna and the Inn at Laguna Beach and when you do please look me up as I would love to give you a warm welcome back.

Thank you for your comments we truly apprciate them

Peggy

In LA for our daughter's college graduation and added two nights at Laguna Beach. Wonderful experience at the Inn at Laguna Beach, which we had picked based on Tripadvisor reviews. Staff very friendly and accommodating throughout. We were upgraded to Room 514, which is to die for in terms of views of the ocean and coast -- well worth the extra cost. The Inn is on the cliffs, with a busy footpath connecting the main beach with a lovely park at the north end of town, but we never heard people noise at all. The sound of the waves constantly was very peaceful. I would go back in a minute.

Room Tip: Definitely request ocean front with balcony; higher floors better to avoid noise from pool, traffic...

Congratulations to your daughter on her accomplishments. Thank you for your comments I am so happy you extended your stay in LA for a couple of days to come to Laguna to enjoy our beaches. We are fortunate to have Heilser Park and Main Beach at our footsteps as these are two top attractions in the City.

Loved everything about this hotel. Excellent location. Excellent Views. Excellent Service. Size of the room. Extremely comfortable bed. The robes were an awesome touch. It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary the hotel sent up a complimentary bottle of Champagne and a card.

Green Features: Very accommodating in every aspect! Exceptionally clean hotel. Knowledgeable staff about surrounding area and recommendations.

We stayed at the Inn for just two nights on our west coast trip. Everyone at the hotel was very pleasant from the front desk to the housekeepers. They have a few complimentary things going on each day: coffee/tea in the morning, wine hour and lemonade/cookies in the evening. The hotel is one of the pricier ones in the area but worth it. The location was great, the views were fantastic and the beds were very comfortable. We will definitely stay there again when we are back out west.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 2nd floor and the hallway was noisy due to it being on the street side. But we...

I loved the setting and location of this inn. I know it is an older establishment, but that doesn't matter one bit! The location is perfect for a visit to Laguna. The staff - enthusiastic and helpful. We especially loved Clay at the front desk. His recommendations paid off and saved us time and effort searching for great meals and things to do. The beds were better than most. Soft, welcoming, cushy. I would return every year and enjoy the same experience. Simply wonderful!

Had a fantastic weekend at this perfectly situated unpretentious beachfront hotel. Wife and I live in LA and we're dying to "getaway" for a weekend. we know the region well, have done plenty of weekends away in Ojai, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Big Sur, Mammoth, Big Bear, you name it...this trip to Laguna ranks up there with the best. a huge part of it was the accomodations at Inn at Laguna Beach. Location was key- literally overlooking the heart of town as well as the main beach in town. but tucked away just enough to not be in the heart of it all. Great comfy rooms with nice beds and bathrooms and sliding door balconies with views, complimentary happy hour on the rooftop deck (i mean honestly?), a relaxing pool, also with stunning views and jacuzzi, and great service. if you want 5 star lap of luxury, then maybe this isn't your spot and you could go pay a fortune at Pelican Hill or the Montage, but if you want the perfect homebase for exploring Laguna, walks on the beach, strolls into town, and totally laid back southern california vibe to relax and enjoy the views that god gave us- this is your spot.

enjoy! and definitely go see the protected tide pools right on the beach in front of this property. very cool.

We drove into Laguna last night and checked out several hotels. The Inn was by far the best value as we got a Sunday night "promo" rate of $199 for a full ocean view room with King bed and pullout sofa (for our daughter). Beautiful, bright, clean, and remodeled bathroom. Room 407. Big windows felt like we were on a cruise ship. Sheets felt new. Real treat is listening to the crashing waves. Cookies and lemonade in the lobby were a nice bonus. Easy walk throughout Laguna from here.

Room Tip: Ocean view a must.

Dear SmileyfromScottsdale

Thank you for your kind comments regarding the hotel. It is good to read that you and your family enjoyed your stay. We do think our location is pretty convenient to the beach, steps away and to the Village of Laguna. When the heat of the desert gets to be too much please come back and visit.

Thanks again
