“Affordable elegance in Laguna Beach”
Reviewed June 18, 2008

We stayed here for a weekend getaway & were very impressed with how well the hotel is kept. Our rooms were large with nice decor. Granite countertops on all furniture, upgraded amenities from Bed Bath & Beyond & LCD TV. The rooms have a balcony to step out and look at the ocean. My favorite feature was the full size spa in the rooms. Very comfortable bed & pillow. Great continental breakfast selection & close to anywhere you want to be in Laguna Beach. Easy to park. Within walking distance to the beach. Will stay here again.

We just returned from a stay at this hotel and were pleasantly surprised. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We slept like babies while we were there! The breakfast was a little lacking but my kids were perfectly fine with it. My only complaint is that the bathrooms lack privacy.. which really bugged us and the bath tub is very inconvenient to get in and out of. In spite of the weird bathroom, we would definitely stay there again and probably will. For a 3 star hotel it was above average and very comfortable.

Incredibly friendly staff, an amazing location, and such a romantic setting - this hotel made our weekend fabulous! We enjoyed hours in the pool and hot tub, while admiring the ocean view. You can literally walk across the street to a beautiful part of the beach and the charming town and enticing restaurants are all within walking distance as well. The room was above average and well kept. I'd reccomend asking for a room on the 3rd or 4th floors, as those have direct access to the pool/spa as well as views... makes for a more romantic time. Don't expect too much for breakfast, but that's ok - you're there to go dine out at one of the many options Laguna boasts! I would absolutely stay here again.

ENJOY!

The Laguna Brisas is located on the South (Pacific) Coast Highway, a few miles south of the main art and restaurant district. The hotel offers free underground parking, complimentary high speed wireless internet throughout the hotel (and one computer in the lobby), complimentary coffee in the lobby, 24-hour front desk and complimentary continental breakfast. The Mozambique Restaurant (and bar) and pedestrian beach access are located directly across the street.

We stayed in a partial ocean view room (#202), with sitting area and an over-sized whirlpool spa, located next to the queen-size bed. The room was clean, well-maintained and was furnished with a 32" flat screen LCD T.V., coffee-maker, small refrigerator, hair dryer, iron & board. From the balcony, the ocean could be seen between the buildings across the street (see photo). The balcony faced the street and vehicle noise was a minor distraction.

The heated swimming pool and rooftop terrace, which offers a nice view of the ocean, are located in a delightful courtyard setting. The hotel has a small meeting room which is also used for the continental breakfast service. Breakfast was O.K. and featured pastries, bagels, hard-boiled eggs, frozen waffles, cereal, juices and coffee.

While I wouldn't want to spend my vacation at Laguna Brisas, I recommend this charming inn for a romantic weekend getaway or short business trip.

I am very surprised by the indiference of the hotel staff and management. The hotel room was small but nicely furnished with a great spa tub BUT. The walls in this hotel room were very thin we could hear the neighbors tv blaring till 1am but that is not my main complaint. ALL NIGHT LONG at random times the pipes in the hotel made a very strange rattle. When we contacted the staff they seemed very indifferent and said it happens. Later I was asked to reply to a survey asking about my experience from Best Western. It has been over a week. If fact I waited to post this review because I had thought optimistically that management would respond to my negative experience but I have yet to hear from them. I would say that this was the noisest hotel I have ever stayed at. I am a mature adult and have stayed at more hotels than I can count. The room was fine but I could not deal with the noise. Nice room okay location but next time I am looking somewhere else.

This is a great hotel if you are low on cash. I'll be frank and point out that this is a Best Western so there really should be no expectation for elaborate hotel amenities. But for under $115 a night, it was a perfect romantic getaway. It was clean, spacious, comfortable, and the location was great. My boyfriend loved the big flat screen TV, whirlpool, and the easy access to the beach.

A couple of tips for those looking for a romantic getaway:

1. The room is very comfortable but could use a little flare. Guys/girls, if you want to surprise your loved one, bring some flowers and decorate the area around the tub. Don't forget to bring a bottle of champagne.

2. While the room seemed very clean, you never know. I brought a can of LYSOL disinfectant and sprayed down the whirlpool before using it just to be safe.

3. The continental breakfast was what you could expect from a Best Western. They had yogurt, cereals, breakfast Hot Pockets, and bagels. I would recommend getting pastries from a good bakery the day before, use the continental breakfast for coffee and juice, and enjoy the sun terrace on the roof. It was a perfect place to enjoy a delicious breakfast and a good read.

4. Don't bring candles or bubble bath - there is a hefty fine if they find out that you used candles in the room. We found this out when we asked for matches in the lobby.

5. Enjoy yourself. We definitely did.

Check-in and parking were straightfoward. The room and bathroom were huge with a big plasma screen tv on the wall. The spa was a little disappointing - it's in a dark corner and the jets aren't particularly effective.

The hotel is close to the beach but about a mile away from the main part of the town. It's close to a few bars and restaurants though and the area seemed pretty safe to walk around in.
