“New Ownership, New Opportunity”
Reviewed July 31, 2014 via mobile

I was visiting from out of town and had no plans for dinner so
I looked this place up. When I arrived I was told that this location had two restaurants: The Deck and the Driftwood Kitchen. The Deck was packed with an hour wait so walked 10 ft. to the right and decided to check out Driftwood. First glance, Driftwood is more upscale while the Deck is more casual in nature, my own opinion. Both have amazing outside dining just above the waves of the Pacific. I ate at the bar and my server was Zack. Super personable, great service, and his recommendations were spot on! He made you instantly comfortable. I went with the Halibut for my entree (note: the Chef, Rainer Schwarz cooks and has designed the meals for both restaurants). The Halibut was cooked perfectly and FRESH and I thought the accompanying sauces, vegetables, etc. were just right. They specialize in seafood and beef but have a variety of other items to choose from. Not only is this place hidden (definitely off the main drag ) it is also a real gem) by the way the meals are also priced like that, not inexpensive). Not being local I am not sure what it was before but I would try it again. Lastly, they have a big room upstairs for private parties which I could see entertaining customers in the future. For being open (as a new concept and I believe name) they did a nice job and I think will only get better!

“Who needs this?”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

This restaurant is in the same location as the former favorite of the Laguna Beach water front, The Beach House. Gone but not forgotten is this wonderful restaurant that hangs over the sand with the ocean waves out front. The location is still the same for Driftwood Kitchen and if you want to drink you will have a long wine list with silly comments for each section. If indeed you want to eat you must be craving kale or endive salad, pork lardoons, sausage in the steamed mussels. Of course you could have two small octopus tacos for $14. You might starve with that plate. The menu is crying for a change. The tables are new and all tip so the waiters are stuffing things under one corner to level things. (Three tables while we dined) There are many umbrellas for the patio tables but the staff could not figure how to arrange them so three people could sit in the shade. I recommend that you go on your birthday as the birthday dessert was very nice.

“WOW”

Best in Laguna Beach. On the beach with amazing views. Beautiful redone historic beach house. And topped off with the absolute best food in Orange County. A must try and the perfect place for any special occasion.

“Great Atmosphere....Great Food...Great Service”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 via mobile

You come to Laguna for the stunning views and this restaurant does not disappoint! The views are magnificent. In fact it feels as though you are sitting on the sand only you don't get sandy!!
The food was great. I went for both dinner and lunch. Although the same price for lunch and dinner I found the lunch portion to be larger and more tasty. I are the same thing twice as it was delicious...the halibut. Although both were good lunch was better.
Dessert was scrumptious as was the artichoke and salads. One word of caution...if you want bread it will cost you $5 but is worth it as it comes with a delicious black salt butter.
As for service it was superb...ask for Andy. He is quite a character and will definitely enhance your experience.
One last tip...there is valet that is rather affordable. So much easier than looking for parking especially during the season in Laguna.
Enjoy your meal!
