My wife and I first visited SoCal eight years ago when we traveled to a conference in Ontario, just outside Los Angeles. Since we had a rental car, we took a drive down to Laguna Beach on our last afternoon there and had an amazing time. The night ended with a wonderful dinner with college football and a great variety of CA microbrews on tap.

Sadly, as much as we enjoyed our night in Nov. 2005, we could not recall the name of the place that we went to when we returned recently. As we retraced our steps, though, some things became more and more familiar until we finally found the House of Big Fish!! This was it! It is an upstairs restaurant and bar adjacent to a public parking garage, and we happened upon it on a Sunday afternoon, the last week of the NFL 2013 season, with half of the TVs showcasing the local Chargers game (fighting for their playoff lives against the Chiefs), and the other TVs on the Packers-Bears game (for the NFC North title and playoff spot) and the 49ers-Cardinals game.

We secured two seats at the end of the bar next to a couple of Bears fans (at the bar were also a few Packers fans), but the entire place was dominated by Chargers fans. It was a lot of fun experiencing the ebb and flow of the fans, and the mood turned euphoric when the Chargers rallied to win in OT.

The beer was ice-cold; I had a few Mission Brewing Company Hefeweizens. The food that we ordered was very good (not great); I had the blackened fish burrito w/ quinoa, and my wife ahd the Hangover burger with a fried egg on top.

This place is a lot of fun when football is on the TVs. I'm very glad that we found it.

This was the perfect place for our family of six to enjoy our first night in Laguna. We were promptly sat at a nice table with views of the sunset over the pacific and behind the mountains. It made us really appreciate the differences between this quaint little beach town and our beaches at home in Florida. The food was great, but their small plates are not small so consider sharing. We left a ton of food on the table because everyone wanted to try something different. The standouts were as follows: the lobster fondue (to die for!) the blackened chicken sandwich, the chicken Cesar salad and the Hangover burger. My son, who is a lineman, will be talking about that burger for years to come! The service was great! Glad we found this place on trip advisor. Hint: there is a huge parking lot right behind this restaurant which is great to use for shopping in the area as well.

My fiance and I ended up in what must have been the best table in the house. We had the most amazing view and the food was excellent. Couldn't have been a better place to spend our only evening in Laguna.

Good beer, good food. They claim they make small plates but there is plenty of food and not tapas sized. Lobster fondue- never had it before but six weeks later I recall how wonderful it was. Scallop dish was great, too with large juicy scallops. Excellent service even when very busy. Wish it was near my Virginia home.

Wide variety of choices on the menu and the seafood was good. However, the plates and portions are small as stated on their menu (more than tapas but less than a normal size meal). Noise level was high. Public parking is behind the building on a side street.
