I got a good half price rate so I stayed, but would have really felt ripped off if i had paid full price! The good: staff was very nice, setting on beach lovely and convenient to all in Laguna, nice toiletries, nice bed & linens, nice wall art, great sundeck above beach. The bad: very loud esp. if your room is near the larger pool & game room area. I mean all-night-long loud! My room was quite small and a little tired looking. To be fair, I think they are in the middle of an upgrade here from a crummy motel to a boutique place~but it's not quite there yet and the prices are high for the standard rooms. The large oceanfront suites look lovely and good size. I would wait to see if the finish renovating before i would recommend it to friends.

We had an ocean front deluxe room (605) which comes complete with full kitchen. This room was awesome. I couldnt ask for a better view anywhere!
The Hotel Manager was awesome! He was highly concerned about how everything was with our stay and was in the process of making changes all over the hotel. Rafael was the best one at the front desk! The maintenance supervisor actually spoke good english and was very helpful in addressing any issues we had.

The only complaints I have about this place are:
1. The towels are horrible... when you get sunburnt and bathe they are so scratchy the towels make you feel that much more miserable. Scratching a sunburn hurts.
2. The room we stayed in needs updated carpeting. It is two toned from where the bed used to sit and it is dirty smelling which I ended up buying Febreeze to be able to stand it. It also has an exhaust fan in the kitchen which is not functional.
3. Parking... why should we have to pay for it when alot of times we had to wait for a space or leave and come back later due to a wedding or the Beach House restaurant valet parking using all the available spaces. They also tax it which they dont tell you about until check out.
4. Someone allowed thier large sand covered dog to literally swim in the pool while we and others including children were in it. That was gross!!

All complaints aside I will most certainly stay at this hotel again providing they do not increase the rates.

My husband and I went for the week with our twin 10mth olds. We stayed in a King/Ocean Front Deluxe room and brought in 2 pack n plays. It has a kitchenette.. sink, refridg/freezer, microwave and tiny oven/stovetop. Very limited kitchen supplies..bring your own sponge to clean dishes, and papertowels/napkins. Also may want to bring something sharper than a butterknife.

The view was unreal.. literally right on the beach. Location was fantastic, easy walking distance to town and main beach park. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you have an ocean front room, that is what makes it worth your while. They had a beach attendant who would set up chairs and umbrellas for you which was great. Bring your own beach towels (their beach and bath towels were like sandpaper).

Rooms were average at best.. but if you get a good rate, it's worth it. The hotel has been remodeled, so basically new paint here and there.. the beds are just average, paint peeling on the walls of the balconey. The balconeys are good for people with young children.. they are totally secure, no gaps or slats to put arms and legs thru.

There is no restaurant or room service at this hotel. The Beach House Restaurant is right next door and we were able to get their sunset special to go.. $19 lobster tail with potatoes and veggies.. the best deal! The Orange Cafe is next door past taco bell.. great muffins, coffees, breakfast foods and sandwiches... Ralphs is right across the street and a little further down the road Adolfo's has great mexican food! One night we had a babysitter and went to Five Feet in town. It was to die for. Highly recommend it! Also, we ordered in pizza from Gina's pizza down the street and they deliver, really good.

They said they had wireless internet in the rooms.. it was not working, however they had a computer in the lobby and printer that were available for free use. Also, about a block towards town was a great spa, Athena Spa. The hotel info book in the room says they give 25% off, but the spa said they have been trying to get the hotel to change that, and they do not give that discount. They do give 10%. The spa was great, a fabulous massage and infared sauna!

All in all, with a good price on an ocean front room with balconey this is a great value and fabulous vacation spot with kids.

Here are the positives:
* Location - downtown Laguna beach ... walking distance to Main beach and Heisler park ... beautiful for the cost
* Ocean front rooms are simple, clean and truly oceanfront - balcony over the water
* Beds are comfortable
* Maid service is friendly and professional
* Close to market for cost-conscious travelers

Downsides:
* Be careful of the checkout rate ... many complain of inflated rates over the rates promised at reservation time
* Told by staff in September 2008 that Pacific Edge is to be demolished and replaced with a new "resort "

This is a 3 star hotel in a 5 star location. It has ammenities of a resort at a 3 star hotel price as well.

Rooms: We stayed in the cheaptest available, which faces the highway. You have to turn on the fan all night or you won't be able to sleep. The partiers and traffic noise were awful. The rooms themselves were cute. The beds were pillowtop mattresses and quite comfortable and they had a pillow menu to choose from. The in room coffee was delicious and the refridgerator was roomy. The rooms were a bit musty smelling but hey it's the beach.

Amenities: The pool area was small but they had a recreation room, towels, and fresh water available at the pool. The bathroom at the rec. area was disgusting but it was a nice touch that there was a changing room available with diaper table. At the beach you are provided with loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. The towels are awful but considering this is one of the nicest beaches in southern california I couldn't complain.

Service: All you have to do is call and they will go out of their way to accomodate you.

Location: Perfect, aside from the traffic noise.

If you want to spend a little more, then get an ocean front room and you will hear the waves rather than the traffic/party noise.

Beach House restaurant: Lovely views, decent food. A bit pricey but the view and delicious cocktails were well worth it. The service was great, too.

I had researched accommodations and took great care in finally choosing the Pacific Edge Hotel. While the eventual location of our room, #208, didn’t correspond exactly to the website pictures/information and the décor was a bit dated, it was suitable……until….
My husband was looking for the TV remote (which was actually missing from the room) and I suggested he look around the bed in case it had dropped off the bed. At the foot of the bed, near the bed skirt my husband found a complete hypodermic needle/syringe. It was close enough to the traffic area around the bed that a bare foot unknowingly could have made contact, not to mention a hand reaching down to pick up a dropped object.
My husband took the needle to the front desk for proper disposal and to inform them of the situation.
After that, I could not relax and enjoy our accommodation. I found it very disturbing. If this needle was overlooked, I began to wonder what other aspects of housekeeping had also been short cut?

I have traveled the world and stayed in many, many different kinds of ‘accommodations’. I have dealt with many different scenarios, but while inconvenienced on occasion, I have never been exposed to a possible health risk---that could have been totally avoidable with proper housekeeping/inspection procedures in place and practiced.

We were very sorry to learn of your recent experience and take this situation very seriously. We hold ourselves to a higher standard and are reviewing housekeeping procedures to ensure a situation like this does not happen again.

Although not a direct result of your experience, I want to share that we recently appointed a new director of rooms who will oversee both housekeeping and the front office. This will allow us to enhance the guest experience from check-in, to guestroom comfort and cleanliness, to checkout.

We hope this combined with our retraining will build confidence that the Pacific Edge is dedicated to comfort, quality and a memorable stay.

I have been coming here for years because of the casual environment and perfect location. Service is above expectations, always friendly, prompt and professional. Maybe not as "fancy" as other beach locales, but to me, more comfortable because of it. We usually get the Surf Wing Rooms with a full kitchen and truly make ourselves at home. Beach access is amazing and sitting on the balcony or deck at sunset can't be beat. Simply a lovely, relaxing and pleasurable time. I have checked out other Laguna sites and none offer what Pacific Edge does, even at greater prices.
