“A Beautiful Spot”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Our first visit to the cove..... such a pretty spot. You pay a flat fee for all day parking.... $15, I think. Like many others, we were there to see the tide pools and were not disappointed. Kids were playing happily on the beach but it was just beautiful and quiet. Parked our car across the street and took the tram to the historic area. Wandered around a bit and checked out the cottage where Beaches was filmed. A bit disappointed that it wasn't open the day we visited. Grabbed some drinks at the roadside stand above. A lovely spot

“Crystal Cove State Park: El Moro Canyon”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

I get a yearly state park pass every year and have been coming here forever. It's a great place to hike and/or mountain bike. There are dozens of trails and canyons to explore. My favorite is an 8 mile loop that backs up to the 73 toll road. If you can find them, there are a couple single tracks that are pretty steep and a lot of fun on a mountain bike. The beach is great to relax on after a good ride and there is even some decent snorkeling and waves to be had.

There are campsites available near the beach and more primitive hike in-hike out sites available up in the hills. About half the sites provide RV hookups and the other half (up until recently) won't allow anything over 25 ft. The sites are in high demand, especially during the summer months so be sure to reserve them early. Also, if you're bring an RV make sure the site you reserve can accommodate. The last time we were there they wouldn't allow our 30 ft. RV into the park (stating they no longer allowed RV's over 25 ft.). Even though my confirmation email stated there is a 38 ft. max and we have had the same RV in the same spot earlier that year and once the year before.

Besides the issues we experiences at the front gate on our last stay I have had zero issues with the rangers at this beach. The people working the front gate at the time must have been new. They were young, extremely rude, unprofessional, kooks that have no business representing the state of California. They sent us away without a refund and when we returned after swapping everything out of the RV into a van they had cancelled our reservation and sold the site to someone else.

I could still recommend Crystal Cove/El Moro to anyone but if you plan to camp here be sure call ahead of time. Also, if you have any issues at the gate ask to speak with Mike. He seemed to be the one in charge and was the only one there that appeared to have any authority and respect for their visitors.

“Beautiful beaches!”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

This was the first time we came to Crystal Cove SP and we love it. We mainly came here to see the tide pools but the low tide wasn't low enough to explore thoroughly. Nevertheless, we still get to see many sea life and get to play on the beach. The bluff is also very interesting, especially at the north end of the beach. The historic buildings are nice to look at. I wish they have more restaurants in the park as the only one "The Beachcomber Cafe" is packed. We decided not to eat there as there was an hour wait. This place is enjoyable for people of all ages. The large chunk of the park located on the mountains is great for hikers.

The $15 entrance fee is a bit steep if you only go there for a couple of hours but is worth it if you spend the whole day there. I would love to go back again when they have one of those very low tides. I recommend this park for those who loves hiking, swimming, or tide pooling.

“Kick back and relax”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

Great ocean front camping. Beautiful views from your campsite. You can go biking along the bluffs. Drive or walk down to the beach via a tunnel under the high way. Nice rocky formations. Nothing like an ocean view from your campsite watching the sunset. Bathrooms were clean and the staff friendly.
