Having never been to Laguna Beach we didn't research places to eat and just took a chance on finding a good place to have lunch. Looking for a place that was open to the outside and looked inviting with a good menu we walked into Watermarc. We were lucky to have the 2 seater against the open windows overlooking the sidewalk. We ordered a couple of drinks from our incredibly friendly and helpful waiter Alex. After learning the menu we went with toasted garlic yellowtail served over charred pineapple shaved thin and the fish tacos of the day. Both were fantastic and paired well with the margaritas that were delicious and NOT made with a premix (so there was more than one ordered). For dessert we had the white chocolate macadamia bread pudding. I'm not a bread pudding guy but this was outstanding!

This place was so good we decided to go back for dinner the next day even since we knew they'd have a different dinner menu and the service was great. Crab cakes made by a chef from Baltimore? Nailed it. Served over a sweet potato hash that could be an appetizer all on it's own. We were torn between the seabass and scallops but since we split a fairly large Chop salad that we couldn't seem to stop eating we split the scallops. Perfectly cooked and positioned over sweet pea risotto with a hint of basil really set it off right. Eating all this up in their upstairs dining floor that opened up to the outside with trees offering shade and the translucent roof that allows light to shine in.
Watermarc's wine menu is very diverse and I liked their daily wine specials which we imbibed.
We'll be back even if it's just for a drink at their very cool and inviting bar but I doubt we'll resist trying something new on the menu.

My wife and I dined here before going to the Pageant. We reserved on Open Table, drove by at lunch time and it was packed, filled back up at 6pm so reserve on weekends and peak times. We ate burgers which were not typical, burrata and crab cake, both were great and 1/2 off was better. Oysters were excellent, they don't drain the alcohol off the half shell. Super Tuscan wine by the glass and a great dark stout beer. We will return for another dining experience but must say the happy hour(4-6pm) was fantastic and you don't have to be seated at the bar for it!

We ate at this restaurant Friday, Aug 8. Our reservation for 2 was for 6:45 and we were seated immediately. We ate next to the window looking to the street (there is no outdoor seating - at least in the front). The restaurant is noisy so we were fortunate that the window was to one side of our table - I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it so much if we'd had people to both sides because the tables are close together.
Our server, Eric, was terrific, attentive but not hovering. Our water glasses were kept full. The wine selection and cocktail list is more than adequate with lots of choices. I checked Trip Advisor reviews and we ordered the Trio of Potatoes (very good & enough for 2). We also ordered the Home Made Ding Dongs which, very cleaverly, come in a lunch pail with milk. (You don't get to keep the lunch pail!) Our steak entrees were cooked exactly as we asked.
This isn't an inexpensive place to eat (the menu on the website has prices), however, a couple of the starters would probably make a meal. We liked the restaurant very much and have reservations to take out-of-town friends there next week.

The two of us tried Watermarc for lunch a few days ago, and had a really nice experience there. The menu had interesting and innovative items (without going over the line into weird) and the atmosphere was relaxing. Service was pleasant, efficient and friendly. We particularly liked the section of the Menu called "Grazing" which allows you to have a few glasses of wine and a light lunch, which is nice when the weather is warmer. We shared the smoked bacon wrapped dates, which were excellent, the sizzling garlic shrimp, which were good (but not over the top) and the homemade ricotta cheese with honey and almonds on the side, which was very good. Portions are ample but not excessive; we could have gotten by with two items and been fine; we couldn't finish the three items we ordered.

We liked this place better than the Owner's other restaurant in Laguna (230 Forrest), mostly because of the menu. We'll be back!

Service was great! We love the skinny fries and sliders.
We enjoyed the cocktails too! We ate at its sister restaurant 230 on Forest Ave.
