Having never been to Laguna Beach we didn't research places to eat and just took a chance on finding a good place to have lunch. Looking for a place that was open to the outside and looked inviting with a good menu we walked into Watermarc. We were lucky to have the 2 seater against the open windows overlooking the sidewalk. We ordered a couple of drinks from our incredibly friendly and helpful waiter Alex. After learning the menu we went with toasted garlic yellowtail served over charred pineapple shaved thin and the fish tacos of the day. Both were fantastic and paired well with the margaritas that were delicious and NOT made with a premix (so there was more than one ordered). For dessert we had the white chocolate macadamia bread pudding. I'm not a bread pudding guy but this was outstanding!
This place was so good we decided to go back for dinner the next day even since we knew they'd have a different dinner menu and the service was great. Crab cakes made by a chef from Baltimore? Nailed it. Served over a sweet potato hash that could be an appetizer all on it's own. We were torn between the seabass and scallops but since we split a fairly large Chop salad that we couldn't seem to stop eating we split the scallops. Perfectly cooked and positioned over sweet pea risotto with a hint of basil really set it off right. Eating all this up in their upstairs dining floor that opened up to the outside with trees offering shade and the translucent roof that allows light to shine in.
Watermarc's wine menu is very diverse and I liked their daily wine specials which we imbibed.
We'll be back even if it's just for a drink at their very cool and inviting bar but I doubt we'll resist trying something new on the menu.
