We heard about the cheese board they serve and certainly can't missed it when visiting Laguna Beach. The cheese sommelier was very attentive to ask some questions about what we prefer and she put together a selection of cheese pairing with wine to start our evening. It was delicious and we end up just eating cheese and only a soup for dinner. Satisfying! Cheese lover, don't miss it.

We're staying at the Montage for a month and stayed here for a few weeks three years ago.

Loft has deteriorated.

A ludicrous "show off" wine list with hundreds of bottles at several hundred/thousands of dollars but few in the late tens/early hundreds.

The food was tasteless and overhyped.

This is a place whose menu writer wants a literary prize - Faroe Islands Scottish salmon ...... hmmm. Faroe Islands are an autonomous country within the kingdom of Denmark ...... Scotland isn't ..... at least not for now!

Sea scallops ....... is that as an alternative to the non-existent freshwater scallop?

It's claptrap.

Strangely the staff sat us in a corner facing the ocean - except as it was 9pm and pitch dark outside all we could see was an upright piece of wood and glass reflecting us in it. They had done it to everyone. Someone needs to tell them that at night you can't see the Ocean and it's at least interesting to look at other people in a restaurant than in the naughty corner.

They made a song and dance of their average bread.

We hate Badoit - the rigmarole for them to go to another restaurant in the resort for San Pellegrino was weird - it took twenty minutes.

The hierarchy of waiters is annoying. One to serve, one to ask if all is OK etc.

It's just nothing like as good as it thinks it is.

We ate there about 5 days ago ...... and have no recollection of what we ate such was its averageness.

dinner entrees were $35-45. The food was delicious, but I have had the same quality for less. The braised short ribs were a bit too salted. The oysters were delicious and the charcuterie plate presentation and food were on spot. We have been here twice, but I think I have exhausted my own interest in the small menu choices and will not return. If my husband ever wears pants on vacation we will try their other restaurant:)

The Loft at the Montage serves excellent food, goes out of their way to please (half portions are available), has a varied menu and excellent wines, and has seating out of the balcony overlooking the water. An expensive, but worthwhile splurge.
