The food was great and they also had a great wine list, but they put us in the back area which is so tight that you hear everything being said around you. Better lunch place than dinner place. I had been once before with friends and it was ok for that, but on a date, I feel it is a bit too crowded and tight.

Each month we get together with friends to explore a new restaurant. It was my turn to select. I researched Zagat and other web sites for ideas. Artisan Bistro seemed like a good choice.

Artisan Bistro is on a small side street in Lafayette, CA. You have to be purposely looking for it to find it. Otherwise you'll miss it. You enter through what seems like a back door into a congested area with a small bar on your left. At first upon entering we were unsure where to go, but soon we were greeted and instructed to select any table we preferred.

Our server, Vita, was knowledgable, informative, professional and attentive. The menu contained unique selection giving us an opportunity to explore foods never before experienced. I had to try the octopus appetizer.

Will we return? Absolutely, but for special occasions only. Why? Well, because it's expensive. We each had a cocktail before dinner, shared an inexpensive bottle of wine and had dessert. The bill including tip came to just over $100.00/person.

Did my spouse enjoy Artisan Bistro more than French Laundry? Absolutely! At half the price Artisan Bistro has French Laundry beat.

Thank you Artisan Bistro for a delightful dining experience!

A warm East Bay evening allowed us to eat on the patio. We had tickets to the Lafayette Playhouse and wanted a restaurant close by. Artisan Bistro fit the bill. The corn soup was the hit of the menu. Nice touch if having a special event, call ahead and you will be welcomed in print in the menu. Liked their specialty cocktail menu and pisco sour was excellent.

We had dinner on the outside patio. Décor nothing to write home about, casual tables and chairs, random color patio umbrellas, all fenced around.
Waitress very polite and attentive, great service there.
Excellent cocktails , good selection of beer and wines.
Food portions very small, but tasty. In my opinion overpriced.
Two small entrees with salads, two drinks- around $150 with standard tip.
Probably will not go back, many more reasonable and good tasting choices in Lafayette.
