The property is not as high of a level of luxury as I expected due to the Waldorf Astoria name. However, the small guest cottages are charming and the movie star history fascinating. A highlight of our stay was the free history tour which included a tour of Greta Garbo's home, located on the resort property. The room was very clean, with standard amenities, like a hair dryer, mini-fridge, and flat screen TV. The WiFi did not work in our room, but worked well at the pool. There are activities for kids, like YMCA day camp, and dogs are welcome, making this a nice resort for families as well as couples looking for a romantic getaway.
The best amenity at this resort is the huge number of pools and hot tubs. There are literally over forty pools, meaning all of the guest cottages are quite close to a pool and you can find a pool that is adults-only or filled with kids activities. We ate at four of the on-site restaurants, and the food at all four was excellent.
The only negative aspect of this resort was the service in a few places. The concierge desk was empty during peak check-in time in Friday evening. The waitress at the Mexican grill never returned to our table to refill water or check on us. The biggest service issue was in the fitness center. Many people live in condos at this resort, and we discovered that when we tried to sign up for classes and activities at the fitness center, the staff repeatedly helped the residents before the hotel guests. It was uncomfortable standing at the desk while the fitness desk staff member, Whitney, chatted with residents on the phone and checked them in for tennis lessons, waving them ahead of us. This happened for two of the fitness classes we signed up for, so we gave up on trying another fitness activity, even though the fitness instructors were excellent. I would give this resort five stars with the exception of these small glitches in the service.
