If you are under 40 years old you won't even know what I'm talking about. This is a senior "Cheers". It reminded me of a supper club with the waitresses like my mom, chicken and dumplings as a special and the piano player, The food is just okay but you'll be entertained by the crowd. It is noisy as everyone knows everyone else so they constantly go to other tables to say hi. Reservations are needed. If you are in the area and want basic comfort food, although the menu does consider itself more high end.

Having visited many times last year was very disappointed on our visit this time. The food was average at best, and poor at worst .The salmon and short ribs were both drowned in heavy sauces and tasteless .Service was just okay, with plates cleared before everyone had finished. This is a pet peeve- no plates should be cleared before everyone at the table has finished..
The highlight of the evening is Johnny Morris at the piano.. He s a class act.He plays in the bar area, but it does have the feel of a dining room. In fact it is a nicer room than the main dining room.

We really enjoy eating at the Sandbar during winter trips to the desert. It is a very old fashioned place and the food is very old fashioned, too, but it really has maintained a piano bar type feel and the bar area is comfortable and welcoming.

My wife & I have stayed in La Quinta half a dozen times. Whether staying at the Embassy Suites (like this trip) or the La Quinta Spa Resort, we have always passed by this establishment across from Old Town La Quinta and thought, we ought to go in that dive bar for a drink some day.

In anticipation of our trip to La Quinta for New Year's I had actually looked up the Sandbar on TripAdvisor. Boy was I surprised to read all the positive comments. So while we were in town we went here for a mid-afternoon drink. Even having read the reviews I was shocked. White tablecloth service, a gorgeous while piano for late night ramblings and the friendliest people you could imagine. Granted we were the first ones in when they opened, but everyone was very nice while we checked out the place.

We had dinner plans so we didn't stay. But we did promise everyone that we would come back another day in hopes of catching Frankie Avalon singing or Arnold Palmer tilting one back at the bar. Only locals know about this jive, dive bar.

A great little restaurant that is oozing with atmosphere. Food and service are really good and a crooner on the grand piano only adds to the ambiance!
