“Reputation as tough and well justified.”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We played the course at the end of August and must say while it was tough going it was the most value for money round ever. We paid $44 each for 18 holes and that included green fees, practice range and balls, buggy with GPS, electronic scorecard with final card emailed, ice and water. The service from start to finish was excellent; we were even brought out iced towels on the 5th.
There had been the worst storms in years a few days before and many local courses were closed. Despite this the fairways and rough were immaculate, the greens were thankfully slower than usual. A few of the bunkers were understandably still under repair . If you want a challenge, this is it. We will be back and there are other courses on the complex to try as well.

“Great golf package in summer”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Yes - its hot in the summer in La Quinta. But for golf fanatics, PGA West/La Quinta offers some great deals. For the price of the stay, you also get unlimited golf, a $25 credit a day, and resort fees ($27) waived. The only caveat is that the Stadium course has a surcharge of $50 (which can be offset by the credit). The courses are in okay shape. But you do get five to chose from (Stadium, Nicklaus Tournament, Norman, La Quinta Dunes and Mountain).

“A very tough - but fun - track to play”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Yes, playing the Stadium Course is expensive - $200+ in winter and over $100 even in early June when temperatures poke above 100 degrees. You sometimes can find discounted tee-times online (there are several websites - do a Google search) but even if you don't it is still worth playing.

The Stadium Course is often rated as one of the toughest public acces courses in the United States. It comes by this reputation honestly. There are waste bunkers running the length of the fairways on many holes, well protected greens (think of deep bunkers and severe mounding) which punish errant approach shots and undulating greens which will drive you crazy. However, the fairways are reasonably wide offering large landing areas. Just make sure to play the right tees - the whites at 6,100 yards are plenty for most golfers (remember, it's the slope and rating that matter way more than the total yardage).

My favourite holes - the par 5 16th which has a green perched hIgh above a waste bunker and the island green ("Alcatraz") 17th.

“A beautiful challenge”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Not much to add to previous reviews of this being a beautifully designed course that has many challenges. I've played a few times now and would suggest people avoid bringing up the hype every hole and just relax and play. Also, play the tees suitable for your level and everyone will enjoy it more.
