Amazing food, cozy and charming.
The staff is there for you and knows food.
We had the Bruschetta, Brie & Raspberry quesadilla, Caesar salad, pesto pasta, creme brule ... All was off the hook, even just their house Cabernet. Love this place!!

“A bit disappointed”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

We had walked by Solano's on our first day in the area and were quite taken with the full outside patio as well as interesting looking fare on diner's plates. After reading solid reviews returned for lunch during the Arts Festival to try it out for ourselves. My wife had the house salad which she found quite good but not outstanding. Personally tried the soup special <Clam Chowder> and the 'famous' fish tacos. The soup was okay but not up to the standards of most restaurants on the coast. Same with the fish tacos <which WERE halibut thankfully> but actually quite bland in taste. Guess we were expecting to be 'wowed' but that just didn't happen. Our young server was also 'okay' but certainly not to energetic or personable for that manner. We were asked twice how things were going by a floor manager and could only share an 'okay' or 'fine'. Would be tempted to try again at this restaurant as it does have some promise. On this one occasion, however, it didn't live up to our expectations.

“Wasn't impressed”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We went to Solano's on a typical sunny evening and asked to sit in a shady spot on the patio. We were sat in the sun so an umbrella was promised but was placed at the back of the patio so didn't really help. My shrimp scampi pasta was drowning in grease and when I complained to the waitress, her response was "I've told the chef to watch it for the next customer".

“Excellent meals”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Eight of us had dinner here recently. We all liked the various meals we ordered. Good service by the wait staff, but getting our meals was a bit slow. Nice atmosphere.

“Highly regarded, passable food”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Solano's Bistro has a ton of atmosphere, and on a warm March evening, it's a great place for patio dining in "Old Town" La Quinta. Our party of four loved the ambience, but felt the food did not live up to the reviews, nor the difficulty in getting a weeknight reservation.

The menu is terribly inviting, and all of us had trouble deciding what to order. Two of us chose a pasta entree, one the pork chop, and one the stuffed chicken breast. The pork chop was decidedly dry, saved only by the apricot compote topping. The chicken breast was similarly overcooked, and while the stuffing helped in the moisture department, it had little flavor. Both pasta dishes were prepared well, but one of them could have used a few more shrimp.

The service was fine, but nothing outstanding. Solano's is not as high priced as some of the "premiere" dining spots in the area, and again, the patio location is really a highlight. But would we eat there again? I doubt it.
