“Best Chinese food in San Diego!”
Review of Mandarin House

Mandarin House
Ranked #134 of 1,236 Restaurants in La Jolla
Price range: $10 - $20
Cuisines: Chinese
Description: We have been serving the same classic Chinese recipes since we opened in 1977. We are La Jolla's favorite Chinese restaurant going on 3 generations and have continuted to be family owned and operated. Our unique flavors and recipies have been derived from classic Peking and Sze Chuan techniques. We boast many signature dishes that are original Mandarin House recipies such as our Kung Pao and Cashew Chicken, as well as our Smoked Chicken with Mandarin Seaweed, Salt and Pepper Chicken and our handmade Egg Rolls and Dumplings. Additionally, we bring the best version of your old favorites including Orange Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Beef and Broccoli and even Peking Duck which is still handcarved tableside. We make all our sauces and marinades from scratch as well as our chicken stock fresh daily. We roast all our own meats and believe that our key to success all these years has been controlling every ingredient and process into creating all of our dishes. We are open for Lunch daily (except sunday) and offer Monday-Friday, 11am-2:30pm lunch specials. We deliver nightly from 5pm-9pm in La Jolla and Pacific Beach. Call us for take out or reservations. We can accomodate large parties up to 40. So thank you for thinking about dining at the Mandarin House. Our family friendly atmosphere and delicious food and cocktails will be sure to fill your bellies and put a smile on your faces. Come see what all the fuss is about. See you at The Mandarin House!!

Love love the Mandarin House. The food here is excellent and the owner is amazing and so friendly and kind. The Hillcrest location is even better. Try the Salt and Pepper Chicken, my favorite. Great for both big and small parties, highly recommended.

Delicious, authentic Chinese, including vegetarian items. DELICIOUS egg rolls. Don't be fooled by the look of the place on the outside...it's re-done, clean and very comfy on the inside. They even have a lovely little bar. GO! YUM!

We dropped in for dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant was not busy and the service was attentive and warm. The menu was extensive including normally expected dishes plus several Mandarin specialties, The servings were generous and the quality was excellent.

This restaurant has the feeling of an older traditional restaurant with warm bantering waiters tending to well-heeled locals who have been regulars for years. The feeling is welcoming though, and we particularly enjoyed the owner walking among the table chatting about the Chinese New Years celebration he and his staff had enjoyed.

Maybe not a destination restaurant, but an excellent choice if you are in the area.

Best Shrimp Fried Rice ever tasted! Service for a carryout order was very speedy. The box was fully packed, and loaded with wokked-just-right plump shrimp. Definitely will be going back to try other dishes.
