“Soaring like a bird”
Reviewed August 25, 2014

This was an incredible experience! I'm unbelievably scared of heights and wasn't sure I'd be able to do this, even until they called my name to do it. But I did it and it was incredible! I had confidence in the establishment (their pilots have a 'flawless safety record' and they really seemed more concerned about good flying conditions than generating business).

There are no reservations because it's all dependent on the winds. We called in the morning and they said they thought they'd be flying by lunch. So we went around 11:30am and they had just started flying. We filled out the necessary paperwork and were in cue to go. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait. We wanted to be out there at the same time (two of us) and wanted our picture taken out there together (even though we were on two different gliders) and they worked hard to accommodate…and succeeded. (Note, though, that every time we asked how long it would be, we were told 'about 30 minutes.' We waited at least an hour and 30 minutes before we were called to go…so plan to do this when you really have time to wait.)

Our pilots were wonderful and worked it so we have some great pictures together. That also means the photographer was wonderful as he had to capture it once the pilots positioned us. After they accomplished the pictures (the pilots knew it by the thumbs up from the photog), they took us on a journey up and down the coast a bit, soaring like a bird. They pointed out things of interest on land and in the water (we saw porpoises, schools of fish, a shark!, and took in the beauty of the ocean from above). Overall, we spent about 25 minutes soaring in the wind and we loved every minute of it.

We didn't eat there so we can't comment on the food. But there were many people that came there just to eat and enjoy the amazing view during their lunch break (we were there on a weekday…so it seemed many folks that came to eat probably worked near there).

Did I say it was incredible?! Go for it…it's worth every penny!

“Just need a walk”

Look to go to Torrey and glider port
On my recent visit say RC pros flying their model planes
Then watched professional gliders take advantage of up drafts from cliff and keep us in suspense
Then I peered down to beach below but no nude sun bathers this chilly mid week day

“Great place to enjoy beautiful views and daredevils!”
Reviewed August 24, 2014

We did not eat here, but we did enjoy the spectacular views. The parachutes used by the para gliders are very colorful, and it was exciting to watch them take off, land, and glide over the cliffs. There is live music in the afternoons so the atmosphere is very festive.

“Unreal views, decent food”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

Great place to relax and take in the scenery. There are typically multiple gliders and parasailers simultaneously flying, and the views of Black's Beach all the way down to La Jolla Cove are incredible.

I enjoy coming here to read, take a break from work, or just gather my thoughts. It's always on the list when family is in town (my younger siblings love watching people fly). Parking is free, so Glider Port is very accessible before dark.

There's also a cafe, and the food is OK for the price - you're definitely spending an extra dollar or two on the view and location. I recommend bringing your own meal/snacks.

“Beatiful place to watch & RELAX!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

Glorious place to just chill & watch the hang gliders or hang glide yourself! Sometimes they even have live music & food (you'll have to call to check on this). Regardless, spectacular place to view some lovely SD scenery... Fun for kids to watch too! Definitely worth a stop over if you are going to be hanging out in La Jolla.
