A little out of the way on the coast near UCSD, the glider port is set at the edge of some of La Jolla's beautiful beach cliffs. On a windy day you'll be in for a treat with gliders coming and going all day. You can take a ride but call first. There are facilities including a place to get something light to eat and drink.

Its nice to watch the gliders over the ocean. Very nice path down to the beach. A little steep. The beach is anude beach but there are hardly any people there.

We stumbled upon the Torrey Pines Gliderport while looking for the hiking trails in Torrey Pines. It seems to be a great area for watching paragliders and hanggliders take off and land. There is an observation area and a snack bar. A fun place to hang out for a little while.

So I accidentally found this place while driving around Torrey Pines, San Diego the other day. You have the option to hike around, go to the beach, or stick around the hang gliding area. It's incredible to watch people go from standing on a grassy cliff to being uplifted and taken wherever the wind blows. I went on a Saturday and there were at least 20 people hang gliding around at a time. The establishment also offers tandem rides if you are a first time hang glider. I've never personally done it, but I intend to now. They also had live music, a deli, and cute little picnic tables (and a random foosball table). It's very relaxing just to watch people gliding around and I'm sure it will be exhilarating when I return and decide to hang glide myself.
