We stumbled upon and we're glad we did. We spent a couple hours just sitting on the grass watching hang gliders taking off. Rides are $150 for 20 minutes (well out of my budget) but the view of the ocean and the chance to watch these guys close up are both priceless and free.

This is a great little hidden gem of the San Diego area. The views of Torrey Pines and the cliffs along the ocean are excellent.

Take a jacket or sweater. This is ideal location for the gliders because of the breeze blowing up the wall from the beach up to the Gliderport. It is pretty awesome to watch these people run off a cliff and then begin to soar up and up and follow the wind currents. There is a small snack shack. Just sit down on the grass and watch. Or, you can explore the dangerous cliffside with warning signs to keep you out of trouble. Just a nice place to go on a Sunday afternoon.

We were just driving up the coast from San Diego to Los Angeles trying to access the coast at as many points as possible, and decided to follow the signs for the Torrey Pines Gliderport. We weren't disappointed. We spent the next hour sitting and watching the paragliders and hand gliders with awe as they navigated their way along the craggy coastline. It was a beautiful day it was sunny and it was really calm so we took the opportunity to relax and take pictures whilst watching with envy on this spectacle. It's very picturesque and well worth even a brief visit for the views,
