Don't be put off by the retro look of this sweet old motel. Although it is not part of a chain (although it was--it still is owned by the family that was co-founder of Travel Lodge, and was originally Travel Lodge number 21) and is not fancy, it is comfortable and clean and the greeting you will get from Maureen is warm and hospitable. And it has two ourstanding features: Location location location (steps away from La Jolla cove, the village, shops, restaurants) and an excellent price. Don't miss the terrace next to the penthouse rooms, where you can eat the included continental breakfast in the California sunshine!

Room Tip: Maureen offered a penthouse room and we accepted--we were not disappointed (note however that there is no elevator; this was not a problem for us but might be for you).

Ok location downtown La Jolla; a beautiful village. The motel is small, old and though the family that runs it is sweet, you'll wish for something more updated and pleasant. It's on a noisy and busy corner; the furniture is barely acceptable and the bathroom couldn't be tinier. "Breakfast" is served but is just coffee and a role of some sort.

Room Tip: upstairs for a more quiet experience.

As a motel, it is about average, but at the price they charge per night, you cannot beat their location. We attended the Wine and Art Festival on Girard Avenue. It is just one block off the venue and the main stage is right There! Maureen, the manager, is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are adequate and clean. This property cries out for redecorating, but the prices would likely go up.

Room Tip: Second story rooms are brighter.

The motel was clean and comfortable and you could not beat the location. The motel had everything I needed and the price was right. Breakfast was basic but good quality -- toast, juice, coffee. Parking is limited. It seems like they just barely have enough spaces, especially if you return late at night. I will stay here on future visits to La Jolla.

Room Tip: Early mornings can be a bit noisy due to truck and bus traffic. You might want to use the air conditioner at those times.

This little gem was a great find. Rooms clean, front desk staff very knowledgable, walking distance to beaches and eats. Also public transportation across street. Happen to be there for local music fest. We had a great blues band rite in our parking lot!
