The rooms are spacious and clean, although a bit outdated. The grounds around the hotel are great as is the location. If you are into golfing or hiking, this is the perfect spot. I found the place to be a bit overpriced, especially the bar and room service, $35 for a gronola and yogurt breakfast (room service) is a bit too much.

The staff raises the bar for sure. Other 5 star hotels can only hope to exceed the standards here. A drink by the fireplace is a must before dinner! Make tee times as early as possible as they book up completely every week. The views from the course are stunning. It's easy to be distracted and thrilled at the same time.

Room Tip: Any ocean view is a major plus.

The Hilton was overbooked, so they located a room for us at the Lodge. What a boon for us. This is a lovely hotel, built on a human scale. It's like being in Carmel. Every detail is Craftsman style, handcrafted, warm and tasteful. The staff is welcoming and personable.

We walked to the ocean in the morning, as there is a good walking trail out the front door. Our only complaint is that we did not have more time to explore the restaurant and grounds, due to our business schedule. Highly recommended.

My reason for staying at The Lodge was business in nature but it turned out to be more relaxation then busyness. My wife was able to come with me and I'm glad she did. The view of the golf course from the balcony was a definitely picturesque. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her massage at The Spa. The food at the grill was delicious....I highly recommend the B.L.A.T. The room was very comfortable with a large king size bed and a bathroom to match. We did not have dinner at The Valentien. Instead, we took the short drive to downtown La Jolla but heard from some acquaintances that the food was wonderful.
All-in-all, it was a gem of a business trip that we'll definitely repeat without the business.

I have stayed at many "luxury" properties and I can attest that this one is just that. By the second day, the front desk staff (at least LOREN- who was awesome!) knew my name (I was shocked) and was most accommodating when my travel was in flux due to the hurricane, Sandy..

The rooms were beautiful and well maintained and the housekeeping was exceptional.

I love being able to walk to the State Park and down to the beach- great vigorous walk and beautiful views (even with fog)!

I would go back here in an instant!

Room Tip: one on a higher floor would probably provide more light.

We stayed at the Lodge in Sept. The plusses were wonderful location. Be sure and take a walk on the golf/jogging path along the cliffs. The restaurant was nice with killer Margarita's. The rooms were a bit small but nice and we loved the private balconies. The staff was friendly and service good. The pool was small but nice. Did not much like the restaurant guests being able to gawk at the sunbathers though.

Only down side was the parking was limited and spaces small. The bar was also very small and noise level high. We also could not get a spa time that matched our needs.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the ocean on the ocean side.

The pros are the amazing golf course, organic five star dining, and hike down to Torrey Pines State beach with amazing views of the Pacific.

The cons are noise level if an event is going on a the hotel. A wedding was going on during our stay and the noise level was like a nightclub sounding in our room. Since we were on east coast time from a day of travel, we didn't sleep until the wedding ended aporox 1130pm pacific but 2:30am eastern to our bodies! That was very frustrating to say the least. Inquire about hotel events before booking your stay!

Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazinein 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the golf course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open.
