San Diego Marriott La Jolla
Ranked #12 of 24 Hotels in La Jolla
Reviewed July 22, 2013

We went to San Diego for 1 week. Rented a car. This La Jolla is convenient for travelling to Downtown and to Carlsbad. As a traveller with 2 children, we booked with 2 other families. For 7 nights stay the parking rate is reduced to $10 per day. Many conferences are held in this hotel. Also, Salsa nights are popular too for the locals. On those night parking was very busy. The rooms were clean, quiet and modern. The gym had all the equipment one would need. Some days they even had apples and headsets. Towel service in the room for family of 4 was the only issue we had. Starbucks, L&L Hawaiin food, 2 delis and Einstein Bagels were walking distance. The renovations to this hotel should bring in more business. The valet parking and concierge were friendly as they greeted you daily. If they improved the attention to detail on the room housekeeping towels I could give 4.5. We stayed in another Marriott in Marina De Ray this was comparible except they only have Valet unless you park across the street. We managed to get this through Priceline's Express Deals for $120 end of May. Downtown La Jolla is a good 10min drive from here.

We loved our stay! Erica B at the check-in counter was especially helpful in finding us just the right room. Everything was very clean and all the staff we met were very friendly. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you!

I stay at this Marriott almost every week on my short business trips to San Diego area. After going through a major renovation, the hotel is very nice with beautiful, cozy and open lobby area. I am writing to acknowledge the friendly staff I see at the concierge lounge who takes the time so exchange chitchat with almost everyone that step into the lounge. I I specifically wanted to mention Bilal and Amelia who I usually see at the breakfast and never fails to stop by to say hello and spend few minutes on the weather, or the recent sporting events, or something else. They put extra effort in making it feel like a home (although if you are like me, you would hate to be away from home). Thanks guys for your efforts in making our stays little nicer.

I stay a lot a Marriott and have a status with them. This Marriott was the worst Marriott I have stayed at. Parking is 20 dollars, the location is away from everything (unless you are working in the area buildings), the room didn't have towels (it took them 30 min to bring them up), and worst of all, there was hair in my bathtub! I will never stay here again.

On Business Travel for extended periods, the San Diego Marriott in La Jolla is my first choice (when available).

The rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet.

Above all, the staff is very professional and friendly.
From the front desk, to housekeeping, to the parking attendants, the to restaurant servers.

In particular Theresa at the front desk is a standout.
She is very professional and remembers everyone and their preferences.
In addition, Jeff at the front desk and Ray the parking attendant is of the same caliber.

I just got back from visiting my in-laws in San Diego and stayed at the nearby Marriott La Jolla. I was expecting run of the mill high-rise hotel fare but wow! What a nice surprise. The lobby has recently been redecorated and is just really warm and welcoming. There is a long bar in the lobby that was hopping with every stool filled with nicely dressed, chatting people though not loud and obnoxious for the weary traveler. It was more like friendly atmosphere with music that was in the background piped in but popular current and past well loved tunes. The furniture is colorful and modern with stations to plug in. There are also flat screens in the lobby with sectioned off areas with sofas for viewing. It's all very open with lots of glass and an outdoor patio with restaurant and comfortable cushioned furniture. The weather was perfect. I was on the 15th floor with a view of the downtown of La Jolla and beyond that the rolling hills and sunset. The room was very comfortable with appropriate amenities such as robe, lotion, shampoo/conditioner and other sundry items that are expected. The room was spacious with very modern furniture that was not the usual expected type. You could open the sliding doors to enjoy the nice breeze and ditch the AC. The area the hotel is in has a Starbucks within walking distance as well as an Einstein's and a nice Asian restaurant that has outdoor seating and a local feel. There are condos in the area so there are things for people that actually live there. Parking is an additional $20 a day which is unfortunate but it's California and things are expensive. There is also Starbucks coffee available in the hotel restaurant but not a Starbucks store. They have breakfast for additional cost unless you bought a package deal. I did not do that. I enjoyed my stay. The people were nice that work at the hotel. I had room service and it was excellent, the food was hot and it came quickly. Pricey as usual but much appreciated. I surprisingly liked this hotel so much that I can't wait to get back there to see the in-laws again and stay at the hotel. I went for a walk around the area and felt safe. There is a lot to see in the area surrounding such as Torrey Pines Preserve and the famous golf course if you play. My only complaint was that the ice machine was out of ice, otherwise, I greatly enjoyed this friendly, chic hotel with the sexy new fun lobby.

Room Tip: I always like to stay as high as possible. This trip I stayed on the top floor and it was very quie...

The hotel is nice but definitely for business travellers. Not a lot of extras; no spa and small pool. Workout room was better than average.
Service was excellent though. Erica B was especially helpful when we checked in, giving us some ideas for places to go and things to do. She provided excellent customer service.

Dear DianeRug,

Thank you so much for recognizing one of our Superstar Hosts (our little nickname for Erica)! I have to agree with you on the workout room, it’s probably my favorite of all the hotels I’ve worked and stayed at myself. We are also lucky to have many spa, restaurants, shops and relaxing activities within walking or short driving distance away and hope we can direct you towards them in the future!
Once again, thank you for your time and we looking forward to your upcoming stays!
