“Great Family Vacation Spot”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is an excellent family vacation spot. The 2 bedroom with a kitchen gave everyone a bit of space and we had a great game table and place to watch a movie. Watching the seals play in the waves was an added bonus. The pool was heated and really enjoyed. We enjoyed the pitch and put gold and meals at the resort. A highlight was a surf lesson with Surf Diva.

Thank you for the great feedback! I am so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay. I am glad that you were able to experience the great aquatic life just outside our door and had an opportunity to have a surf lesson! We hope to see you back at the club again soon!

Had the good fortune of attending a work event here, and tacked on a few days for fun. It was such a treat to arrive and see that the beautifully maintained property was quite literally on the beach. On the first morning, a pod of dolphins entertained us just off-shore while we ate breakfast. Staff members were unfailingly friendly and helpful, the lunches were tasty (although breakfast was nothing special), and the evening bonfires on the beach were unforgettable.

Room Tip: Someone else was paying and the only negotiated group rates for the street-facing rooms. Indeed, ou...

Service, great, rooms very clean, staff excellent, and food great. Call drinks over priced, I just can't get use to or understand why any one other than airports get away with charging ten times the price per shot.

Starting from the travel to the hotel, I loved each part of it. The rooms were spick and span, with a nice beach view. Also, i got a deluxe suite free upgrade. I loved the food available in the hotel. Overall, it was an enjoyable and pleasure stay for me.

My husband and I spent a week at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club - to escape from the Portland gloom, celebrate New Years and our anniversary, get some sun, play some tennis, and enjoy the outdoors. It was the perfect place for an easy get-away and we completely enjoyed our stay. The prices are high for the condition of the rooms, but you cannot beat the setting, location, service and the amenities. Unlike other resorts, there was no extra charge for court time; and there was a heated pool with times reserved for adults-only lap swim. Even with nippy temperatures it was a great pleasure to be on the beach with endless opportunities to explore. Since we were staying for a week we were upgraded at check-in from a standard room w/kitchenette to a suite, which even featured a partial ocean view. That was nice, but I'm glad we weren't paying full price for what was in fact a fairly worn room adjacent to a restaurant (and all the mechanical sounds associated with that).

Would we return? Absolutely, based on our recent experience; but we also like to explore new places. And I think I would negotiate harder for better discount for a long term (week-long) stay.

Room Tip: No need to pay extra for the ocean view if you want to save money. Second floor is more private tha...

We just left La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Location facing the Pacific was oustanding. Gym was good, pool was excellent, tennis looked good (but did not play) ... but very hard to justify the price. We took a two bed room suite with kitchen and living room -- cost about $800 / night - felt like a "Four Seasons" price for two star accomodations. The place badly needs a renovation. Food and service were average ... room service did not even show up with one order (then again, it was New Year's Eve...). Spa closed at noon on New Year's Eve -- is this a hotel?

Go for the location, but ssume you will eat out a lot - La Jolla is 4 minutes away

Quick review. We travel to San Diego twice a year from Seattle for lacrosse, once in January and once in the summer. I can't believe that this place exists. It's not brand new, but has been well maintained and the service in amazing, the kitchens are great, as are all of the rooms. You are right on the beach, can legally have a glass of wine or a beer in the sand, the food is amazing and I'm shocked everytime that the members (keep in mind the waiting list to become a member here) are so cool with us weekend warriors staying on the site. The golf course is under rated, it's fabulous, as is the pool, staff, spa, etc....Any time of year, stay here!!! Try to stay at the building where the club is.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at ocean level, yet a second floor ocean room is great too.
