We planned a book of rooms in this hotel for our wedding and all the guests were pleased. Breakfast is a fun place to meet up with family and enjoy coffee, yogurt, waffles, etc -- and you can make a night of it with the on-site bar/restaurant Manhattan's. Biggest draw is that it's walking distance to the best restaurants (Cottage, George's, Wisk & Ladle, etc.) the Cove and all. Family could walk to shopping at the Gap, Banana Republic and other fav stores. Made for a perfect stay. Room service did a great job too - Cups La Jolla will even deliver to the hotel too!

We were in LaJolla for a wedding and stayed with the Empress for 5 days. All staff that we had any dealings with were absolutely wonderful. All were friendly and very helpful. Rooms were clean, beds were great....would definitely recommend it.

Whilst I am happy with hotel and the location is excellent, I was very disappointed to get back to the hotel last night after a walk along the beachfront at 5 after 9, to find that the bar and the restaurant were closed because there had been no other customers.

No sign on the restaurant door, we had to go to reception to be told why it was closed. Not good enought for a hotel of this quality. We had to walk back out to get something to eat. Not convenient.

Great location - Fantastic service - We stayed here in June for 2 nights, the location is great 5 mins to town centre, the 3 guys on reception were brilliant and the Valet parking was great. The breakfast on the terrace was loveley, cereals, pastry's toast , waffles, coffee, juice, tea. Free internet. Would reccomend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and I had a long weekend away to celebrate an anniversary. We had never been to La jolla before but read the reviews and Empress seemed very impressive. Little did I know how perfect in location it would be!!!! I wrote to the hotel informing them of our anniversary and how we had never been there before and Amanda upgraded us to their best room with a jacuzzi. OMG!!!! It was such an incredible room with a view, jacuzzi in the bed room with romantic lights and the living room was huge!!! It was by far the cutest and nicest place. We really felt like we were on holidays and we were only there for three days but we felt as though we were there for lot longer due to how relaxed we felt. What we loved as well was how quiet the hotel was. It was great!!!

con: The price for the hotel is quite expensive if you don't get a discounted price from one of the travel websites. We paid quite a bit but since we got upgraded it was all worth it!!

Stayed here on the government rate during the middle of the week. The property is kept up nicely and is in the middle of a neighborhood with many restaurants and stores. Enjoyed a meal at The Cottage which is only a block away. If you carefully read the street parking signs with limited hours ... you can park your car free by strategically moving your vehicle at the proper time.

We spent 2 nights at the Empress and from the first night, we were very impressed by the service we received. The Manager on duty was awesome (Ken??) and gave us very good tips for parking, so we did not have to spend the money for indoor parking. When asked for the best room rates, he even checked the internet, while I was a the front desk to ensure he was given me the best rate. He gave us voucher for free appetizer at differnent restaurant and told us that Azul restaurant had great ""Happy Hours"" food at very low prices. We went there that night and were hooked. Delicious, trendy and great service at 50% of regular price if you go between 4-7:00pm. We were not able to get a king size bed room and settle for 2 queen beds. Room was big, lots of space with complimentary safe in the room and small fridge. It has a working desk with free internet access. Bathroom is big and the room is spacious, but I tend to agree that eventually a nice remodelling would be nice...but the bed was very comfortable and the shower very nice. In the hotel, there is a free business center access and a small gym with a treadmill and elepctical. The hotel provides free cookies at night. The surrounding are beautiful, lots of shop and great window shopping. There is a big boardwalk that goes all along the sea where you can walk with pets and see the sea lions laying in the sun. I went for a run along the sea and it was fantastic, great weather and people are nice. We heard that parking is enforced and tickets are given out easily, but we were lucky and did not have one. We did the Zoo on the second day, took, about 20 minutes to drive there and it has free parking. Zoo was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will personally return to this hotel, when in La Holla again in the future.
