“good location. nice hotel!”
Reviewed March 4, 2007

A friend/co-worker and I stayed for one night at this hotel. We were in town for a work conference. This hotel was in a great location and very comfortable. Nice rooms and comfy beds!

My wife and I traveled to La Jolla and the Empress Hotel for a bit of R & R and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is right on the edge of La Jolla Village so it is close to the action yet is nice and quiet at night. We really enjoyed the size of the room and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. While the rooms are older they have done a nice job of keeping them up and they are quite large. We look forward to staying at the Empress again in the future.

Each October I travel with my 5 friends and this year it was to La Jolla and the Empress Hotel. We had 2 one bedroom suites over a 4 day period. We all loved the location of the hotel, the rooms were very comfortable, hotel staff was most helpful. We would definately stay here again.

We stayed at the Empress two nights (10/2 and 10/3). After arriving very late we were helped to our room by the friendly night manager. Breakfast was nothing special but it did help you to get going. The crib for our son was in the room when we arrived. The room was clean and spacious, more than the Hampton Inn Del Mar which was the same price. Staff was friendly overall and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Great location, although finding a place to dine with our 8 month old son was a bit intimidating as not many of the restaurants appeared child friendly.

We waited too late to book a hotel for our la jolla surf camp vacation. I ended up calling the Empress directly and they gave me a better rate than AAA or the web. I was very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff. I was a mom traveling alone with three kids, everyone from the valet parking to the front desk went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and smooth. They recommended restaurants, loaned the kids surfer magazines and always welcomed us back with huge smiles. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The Empress Hotel of La Jolla is a very nice hotel; we paid $238.21 a night (not bad for La Jolla and the location). The room was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable! The Hotel had a decent breakfast in the morning (and cookies in the lobby in the afternoon). The Hotel is within walking distance of most of the shops, restaurants, and the beach. The Hotel does not offer free parking, but valet is only $10.00. My only recommendation for this hotel is to request a room on any floor except the first floor...we were on the first floor and our very large windows were feet away from a busy sidewalk (see picture) so we did not feel like we could really keep our curtains open (this is the only reason the Hotel is not getting an "excellent" rating). Otherwise, the Hotel was great!

Our stay was unbelievable! We choose the Empress Hotel because it was not large, and was unique. We booked the hotel for 2 nights and 3 days for my husband's birthday. The hotel exterior was fabulous for the time period of architecture. The lobby was classical and inviting. Now here is the big thing, the staff was friendly, sincere, and had a wonderful sense of humor! We loved the staff!!!! We were assigned Room 414 and when we walked in we felt at home. The room had a wonderful sitting area for hanging out and reading. The bed was extremely comfortable!!! Tons of pillows, great quality linens, and the bed felt brand new. We never sleep in when we stay anywhere, but at the Empress Hotel we didn't want to get out of this bed! The bathroom had granite countertops, and marble tiles in the bath tub/shower, very classy touch. We went to the Manhattan for cocktails and to listen to the jazz music of "Joe", which was a great treat. We did not have the opportunity to eat at the hotel, but the staff at the bar and walking in and out of the area were wonderful! We definitely will stay at the Empress Hotel everytime we go to La Jolla, as there is no other choice for us.
