La Jolla Village is a popular area with both tourists and local high-end shoppers and diners. You won’t find major chain hotels or huge resorts in the Village (although you can certainly find them in surrounding areas); this is the domain of small, exclusive and pricey boutique-style hotels. If you’re determined to stay in the Village but are concerned about the damage to your wallet, you might think about this hotel.

In many aspects, you do get what you pay for at this Best Western Plus. There’s no pretense here of being a luxury property, and you shouldn’t expect it. However, I’ve stayed here several times on business and I’ve always found the staff to be pleasant, and the rooms to be large, clean and functional. The complimentary breakfast is fine (I’ve certainly had worse), and the location is great – you’re within walking distance to art galleries, fashionable boutiques, and a wide array of excellent dining options, not to mention Casa Beach, a tiny cove where harbor seals love to sun themselves.

So if value is important to you – even in an area like La Jolla Village – the Best Western Plus Inn by the Sea is worthy of your consideration.

The hotel is well located, just off the main street in La Jolla and about 5 minutes walk from the coast. Check in was relatively quick and parking is available in an underground lot.

My room was well appointed with a balcony and overlooked the pool area which closed at 10pm. The coffee maker was very welcome.

Continental breakfast was served in a room by the pool and was off a good quality.

Overall I was very impressed by this hotel.

This hotel has an incredible location, friendly helpful staff, they assisted us with directions multiple times, they have a pretty decent free hotel breakfast, not just fruit and coffee, but pastries/muffins, an egg thing (not great, but at least they offer it) and hashbrowns, along with yogurt, oatmeal, juices etc.

The room was a very decent size, we had room 300 which I can't figure out why had an extremely long walk way/hallway into the room lol, but other than that, it was a very good size and had a nice balcony as well.

The hotel also offers complimentary iced coffee between 2:30 - 5:30 every day I think but I was never in the hotel to enjoy it.

We stayed here on a special rate for a friend's wedding so I'm not sure what the regular rate is for this place, but I think most like this is a very good value if you're looking for above average that can work within one's budget.

First time in San Diego area. We chose La Jolla because it was close to Torrey Pines were we wanted to go for golf, and also close to San Diego.
Perfect choice. The hotel is a little old, but very clean and the personnel very helpfull. We were staying 3 nights, so ask for a refrigerator in the room and they send it right away.
We were on the fifth floor, it was very quiet. Our room was big enough, bed and pillows were fine, we had good nights sleep.
The price is good but the location is what makes it great. You are close to a beach and lots of restaurant.

Room Tip: Last floor was fine

Although great location and accommodating staff, this pricey hotel needs work. We were offered 3 different rooms; one with a noisy air conditioner, one with an air conditioner that didn't work and there was mold on the ceiling in the entryway, and the room we finally took had a saggy mattress, a loose outlet by the bathroom sink that caused the bathroom light to flicker on and off when used, and there was dirt where the carpet and baseboards met. Outlets were scarce also.

I wrote my concerns for management and gave them to the front desk when we left but have heard nothing.

I would not stay here again unless improvements had been made.

Room Tip: I wouldn't choose a room here.

I'd give this hotel 3 1/2 stars. The pluses: great, great location, within walking distance from the cove, shops and restaurants. (my family and I were there for the annual La Jolla Rough Water Swim, so proximity to the Cove where the event takes place is a must.) The rooms and rest of the hotel are clean, nicely decorated. The staff is helpful as well as friendly. The minuses: breakfast isn't all that appetizing. The breakfast room, located by the pool, is poorly ventilated, small, and really not that inviting. Also, our bathroom could use some remodeling. I was also surprised not to have a microwave in our room, an amenity that I've come to expect (The far superior Quality Inn in Blythe, CA, for instance, offers such luxuries, though it's not a tourist town like la Jolla) Overall, I'd recommend to stay at the Inn by the Sea because of convenience and good rates, but don't expect too much or you'll be disappointed.

Room Tip: I had a nice room (# 233) on the second floor, overlooking the pool.

This hotel is in an area surrounded by shops, and is only about 2 blocks from hotel. HOWEVER, the ocean view is totally misleading, you see a little piece of the ocean but the buildings block your view, so you see a small slice of the ocean. It is NOT on the ocean, and the ocean where you are you can't swim in, you have to drive a ways to get to a beach. The view of the seals is great, but by far the nicest beach was Salano by Del Mar. We would not go back to this hotel, the room service was bad, the beds were awful, so would not recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: Room 416 is on the backside with the ocean view but the buildings block your view, not worth paying...
