Okay after reading the reviews I was nervous but let me tell you...as a mom of 2 girls this place was wonderful. We were in town for a swim meet and my high school daughter and her pals were easily able to walk the nearby area with no worries for mom. As hotels go it is older but you CANNOT beat this location....rooms are good in size but c'mon you are on the beach in La Jolla this place is great the breakfast is ample and the location cannot be beat...will I go back...for sure the staff was super and we truly enjoyed our stay!

I stayed at this hotel with my husband, son, mother and father. The hotel is an older one, but our room was very well maintained and very clean. We rented the full suite and had ample room for everyone. We even had a large living room area for all of us to be comfortable in but we mainly chose to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view of the ocean and Scripps park.

The shops and restaurants in the area were great, but with the full kitchen in our room we could have easily saved money and made our own meals if we wanted to. We are going back in a few months with the whole family and plan to take our own meals and just spend a relaxing two days enjoying the fresh ocean air and the beautiful sunsets at La Jolla Cove directly across the street. The view from the rooftop where the breakfasts are served is not bad either!!

We were able to get a great price online for our room and believe it was well worth it. Especially when you consider how large the room is and how many people will fit in it. Anywhere else, we would have had to get two rooms for all of us and it would have been a small room with a bed and TV. What is the fun in that?

There were MANY things about this hotel that made it our worst hotel experience. We had a mini-suite along with the adjoining studio.

1-the awful smell (We changed rooms and the same odor was in the new room on a different floor).
2-there was no working AC
3-the bathrooms were disgusting and tiny, the faucets must be from the 70s
4-the balconies were not private
5-from the balcony the neighbor can look into your room
6-the tv is soooo small
7-the living area (in the "mini-suite")has a wall of mirrors, (you can look at yourself while watching tv)
8-there is a constant glare on the tv
9-the furniture is so cheap and outdated
10-the sofa in the "mini-suite" is uncomfortable
11-the kitchenette has disgusting appliances from the 1950s
12-the walls are paper thin
13-we were charged 3 separate times for parking 1 car!

This was a complete rip-off. It must be a 1 star hotel if that even exists!

The hotel is in a great location especially if you are running the La Jolla half- marathon, or want a great view, but horrible if you want to get some sleep!!! The walls are SO paper-thin, the only thing missing is the silhouette through the wall. You can hear every conversion of the people next to above you and below and to either side. The people next to us checked into their room at 3:30 in the morning and proceeded to slam every window and door. Then complained that the room was so small. Thank goodness the TV in their room did not work and they moved to a different room. Talked to other people who stayed at the hotel and they had similar comments about the thin walls.

When we checked out of the hotel the next morning, the front desk staff was so unsympathetic and unprofessional.

For $250 a night you would expect a little more. I would never stay there again!

La Jolla Cove Suites was quite possibly the worst hotel experience we've ever had. Aside from indifferent service and grimy outdated rooms, this hotel had the worst insulation between rooms. It was if the walls were made of rice paper. We heard our drunk neighbors who rolled in at 3am as if they were in the room with us. When someone flushed a toilet on a higher floor, you could hear the water (and whatever else) rush through the pipes. You could hear the cars reverberating throughout the courtyard as if you are at the Daytona 500. We heard so much noise throughout the night, that we could not hear the ocean surf right across the street. The location is excellent, but for the price, it is so not worth it. Stay somewhere else. Anywhere else!

We were booked at a Shelter Island hotel when our sister found a link to this place . They had great rates when you compare this place to others.

We were traveling with our four children and then got a second room for a couple of sisters, mother and an occassional nephew.

It is really hard to find rooms for six people so we liked the layout here. We got a junior suite with two double beds and a sofa sleeper.

Here's what you get--
1-an incredible view of La Jolla Cove
2-a beach right across the street (small and protected but it is a beach
3-a park right across the street with walkways everywhere
4-phenomenal restaurants all around
5-shopping up the street on Prospect

We found a grocery on our last night - up Girard Street there is a Von's.

The bad - this hotel is dated. It is clean though and very easy to get around.

The Hard Rock cafe would have been great for our kid's to eat at but it had closed for remodeling two weeks earlier. Rumor was there was a flood at a hair salon above it. It was tough finding places to eat with kids.

We did like "The Spot" but it was a bar. The wife and I also ate at George's but kind of froze in order to enjoy the beautiful view from their rooftop 'bistro'. It was very memorable but the temperature is cooler than you'd expect in the spring.

Overall, if you are looking for convenience, need a clean and functional place that has a great view - La Jolla Cove Suites is a good bet.

After reading the reviews we were nervous about
what we would find at La Jolla Cove Suites. We
are just back from staying there for 7 days. I think
the complaints are from those people expecting a
hotel room with newer furnishings. It is all
in what you value. If you value location and size
of rooms, this is a great place for a
family to stay. My family of five could not have
had more room, a great balcony overlooking the cove,
a great rooftop continental breakfast every morning,
guaranteed parking (you do pay for it). The rooms
were very clean. We would stay here again and would
recommend it to everyone but those more concerned with the furniture. You go to La Jolla/San Diego area to be outdoors!
