While I did read alot of the reviews on this hotel,I hoped for the best, and decided to give it a try.
Besides the most awesome location, the staff were very nice and helpful.
Based on what we heard was a good room,we chose and they were nice enough to accommodate us.
I have to say,as nice as everyone was,we were kinda shocked at the room being so outdated.
It was very clean, with a great view, but a HORRIBLE layout.
Very uncomfortable bed,and couch.
I realize people do not come here to hang in the room.
But between the cheap continental breakfast(to not even have fresh brewed coffee) to a much needed updating,I feel this hotel is overpriced for what you get in return.
When we were in the bedroom,we felt like we were in some motel in Reno, not La Jolla.
It saddens me to write this, but this was our experience.
While we enjoyed the cove itself,we cannot recommend this hotel and I would give it a 2 star rating,if that.
Last year,we came to La Jolla, and had an incredible stay at the Hotel La Jolla.
It was an amazing place with great amenities. We were uber comfortable.Just not close to the beach.
When we come back,we will be going back to the Krimpton Hotel La Jolla

Dear Powderu,
We appreciate your kind comments regarding our awesome location, the friendliness of our staff, and our room cleanliness. But also thank you for taking the time to share with us some areas of opportunities we can enhance for our guests. We are reviewing our continental breakfast menu, and while we have completed a partial renovation of our guestrooms we are still in the process of upgrading more rooms going forward. Once completed, we will invite you back soon to visit us again so we can have another opportunity to better serve you !

Where do I begin? We have stayed at La Jolla Cove Suites for five years, swimming in the La Jolla Rough Water Swim, it is the ideal location! We have always been treated well, had great service from the staff and enjoyed the perfect viewing of the cove and the activities during the race. The reason I write is to commend the Manager Kim for her exemplary service. I should have written last year but didn't so this year I will catch up prior to our stay. The swim last year was a family affair, three generations all staying together. Family from four cities in two states occupied four rooms. We had a blast! The hotel staff was amazing! Our dad suffered from altzheimers and we made special arrangements for the staff to assist if he wandered or we needed extra help. He was great for the most part. He loved being there, he loved watching the race, cheered his granddaughter on and truly enjoyed the ocean. Just one month later, we lost him suddenly. He passed away in October and we are so incredibly lucky to have stayed there in September, all together in such a beautiful and caring environment. The La Jolla Cove Suites are dear to me, we will return annually as long as we are able.

I want to acknowledge Kim, the manager of the hotel, you are really great! Thanks so much for accommodating us again this year! See you in September!

Stayed three nights, had three different rooms! I began with a more-expensive one-bedroom suite (bedroom in the back, stuffy, strange to sleep there by myself, no view); moved to a studio with a view (but the tub didn't work properly); the final studio also had the good view; the studios allowed you to sleep next to the view/balcony, which I preferred. All three rooms needed more updating. Location is PRIME, the view is BEAUTIFUL, especially from the location of the one-bedrooms. The place really needs more HELP; it is too valuable to be torn down. Having its own parking is a plus-plus. The pool and jacuzzi are strangely located - across and up a BUNCH of stairs! - but it makes sense to use the area.
TIP - try the Brockton Villa Restaurant, a five minute walk, in a neat old house, with a great view.

View from oceanfont room was great but booked king room and got double. Bathroom was tiny and in need of updating. Same with kitchenette. Staff was nice. Interestingly hallway not lit during the day so was hard to get keycard into slot but light was on all night and shown through the window in the bedroom. Overall experience was good but won't stay again.

We were a bit hesitant since this property has a lot of one star reviews, but by the time we booked it was just about the only thing left. I was pleasantly surprised when we entered the room. We had a one bedroom suite, two queen ocean view room. The room wasn't fancy, but it was clean, and it seemed VERY large. There was a lot of space for our family of five, with a ton of storage. It felt more like an apartment than a hotel suite. I believe our room was one of the more recently renovated rooms.

The views from the balcony were great. It was fun to watch all of the action in Scripps park, and hear the ocean crashing and the sea lions barking.

Breakfast on the roof was a fantastic experience. The food was good, not amazing. Waffles, cereal, oatmeal, milk, juice, bagels, pastries, etc. But eating out on the roof looking across all of La Jolla was an outstanding experience.

As long as you don't expect a very fancy place, you'll enjoy your stay here. It has a great peaceful, retro atmosphere and we had a great time.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a recently renovated room. And the oceanfront balconies are probably worth the pri...

I stayed here for one night (July 27th) while in town for the film festival. The price was comparable to other hotels of this quality. It is a comfortable hotel in a great location. You can hear the seals (sea lions?) from the hotel and watch all people...you can even hear the live summer concerts from the balcony. I shared a room with two others. We got a suite with an ocean view. The balcony was great and the suite was spacious. Although I don't have kids, this seems like it would be a great place to bring kids or teenagers. The suite is spacious, there is more closet room than I have in my own home, nice sized kitchen with a full size refrigerator and oven range. It would be great for people who are vacationing for a few days. Only complaint I have is that the carpets smelled a little musty (inevitable being so close to the ocean). They allowed us to keep the car parked until 3pm the day we checked out, which was nice because we were able to have a leisurely lunch and walk around town before heading back. Parking costs $20, but that's a fair price for La Jolla in the summer. This place is what it purports to be. Casual, comfortable, no fuss, beach vacation - with the sounds of nature right outside!

Room Tip: Get a balcony facing the ocean!

My wife and I booked a last minute stay here after having to cancel our planned getaway to Playa Del Carmen Mexico due to some unforeseen passport issues. We went into the trip somewhat disappointed but fell in love with this place by the time we left. The hotel was clean, the staff was awesome, and you cannot beat the location. We plan on coming back every year! Big Thumbs up!!!!
