My husband and I went on the sea kayak tours and it was a blast! The tour guys were super fun and they were very accommodating. We arrived 10 minutes late and they were still ok with us catching up with the group. I would do this again the next time we go to la jolla!

“First Timers”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

We booked a 2hour double kayak cave tour and had a blast! We arrived 30mins prior to our tour (per the website) and had no trouble finding parking or LJK. The instructors were nice and even provided two lockers since our things didn't fit into one. Once out on the water we had some trouble coordinating our double partly due to our lack of communication and partly because of my faulty paddle, but one instructor always lagged behind so that the slower kayakers never felt left behind. It was a bit choppy out on the waves but we had a great time and even got to paddle through the caves while other groups sat outside! Saw sea lions, plenty of fish and birds but no leopard sharks this time around. Once back at the LJK they even provided plastic bags for our wet clothes and changing rooms (only three so be patient!) Two thumbs up, would go back again!

“Fun on the water”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

As others have noted, parking is a problem and we had some trouble finding the rental location (which is a few blocks from the beach), but once there the staff was helpful and friendly. Note, you should make reservations for a guide-led trip; we didn't and so rented our own double kayak which was fine. The "instruction" segment was pretty laid back for an uptight East Coast person like me; fortunately I have some kayak experience but my friend did not. I felt safe enough but not really well prepared; push for some kayaking tips and help if you are not feeling really prepared. Ocean kayaking is different than flat water kayaking but although initially a bit daunting, was fine and really fun. This particular location is great because it's very scenic and we saw many sea birds, leopard sharks and sea lions - SO cool. Definitely wear a bathing suit and don't plan on bringing anything into the kayak, it will definitely get wet and/or go overboard! this was a highlight of my trip to southern CA this past weekend.

“Great ocean kayak”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Took my 16 year old daughter last Saturday and we had a great time. The sea was choppy so we couldn't get into the caves, but we did get a chance to get up close to the sea lions. I really appreciated all of the information our guides gave us. There was plenty of staff to help the group out through the ocean and staff on hand to rescue the kayaks as we came back in - for those who flipped. Definitely get the cords for glasses - my daughter was fine until we flipped 20 feet from shore coming in and she lost her favorite sunglasses. If you don't want problems parking, go on the earlier tours. We had an 11:00 tour and arrived around 10:20 and had no trouble finding parking on the surrounding streets on Labor Day Saturday. This was our first time ocean kayaking - we usually kayak the rivers of Kauai and we actually found this trip easier than the Wailua River.

“Great time (for the fit)”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

My husband and I booked a 2 hour kayak cave tour through LJK. Excellent kayak company--very professional, knowledgeable folks. After reading some of the reviews below, I feel compelled to point out a few things. You shouldn't go kayaking if you can't walk a very brisk mile--you just won't be fit enough for it. If you are fit and enjoy being on the water, then this is the activity and the company for you. Secondly, parking in all of La Jolla is awful...its not this company's fault and yes, you should leave yourself enough time to park. Wear a swimsuit. The company will provide lockers for all your valuables and all the gear you'll need. Our tour guides were fantastic, funny, and made the trip really educational. The price for 2 hours is spot on and I will use them again anytime I want to go kayaking in San Diego.
