Believe it or not this was the first time my husband thought to bring us here where the cross and veterans memorial is. 22 years and he brings us finally. The view is amazing. One can see to Mexico. Great place to take fantastic view pictures of San Diego, La Jolla and the bay. What is inspiring is the veterans memorial at the base of the cross going all the way around the base. We only had time to look at two panels before we had to head north to Carlsbad. I would highly recommend this spot to reflect and to be inspired of those amazing men and women who have served our country over the many decades.

When a visitor to San Diego asks me WHAT to see in San Diego, I ALWAYS ask that IF they have a car, to FIRST go up to Mt Soledad in northern Pacific Beach to get a lay-of-the-land. With a 300 degree view of San Diego County, one can choose what next to see. The 900 foot spectacular view is the education of the land below from the OB Pier and the Coronado Islands (Mexico), to Mission Bay and downtown/airport sights in the south. From the power plant in Carlsbad, Del Mar, Palomar Mountain and Scripps Pier in the north. Cuyamaca Peak/mountains (60 miles away) and east San Diego County in the east. Oh, and to the west, views to Catalina in the Pacific, The choice of what-to-do-next becomes individualized. The choice may be overwhelming.

Outstanding monument to those who served - mostly WWII - including Bob Hope and Gen. Patton and Audie Murphy - striking location on hilltop above town. I spent several hours reading the plaques. Moving!

We traveled all the way across the country to attend my brother's wedding on top of Mount Soledad, and it was beautiful! The view was fantastic, we could see all the way to the ocean in one direction, and all the way to the mountainous area in the opposite direction. In addition, the gentleman that was working at the memorial was very knowledgeable about the history of it.
