Not a huge deal, just a classic place all La Jollans used to drive through or go to to see the view.

Mount Soledad has the war memorial which is a very nice tribute to the armed forces. It is also a spectacular spot to watch sunset. You can see all the way downtown and Corondao on a clear day. Of course you can also see sunset over La Jolla Shores.

Atop the highest point in the area, expect to see fantastic views of SoCal; if the visibility is cooperating, you can see the mountains in Mexico! Unbeknownst to us, there is a very poignant memorial to those who served at the base of the cross overlooking the ocean and surrounding area.

There are around 12 parking spots on top of the hill. Take your time to review the WWII, Vietnam, Korea war heroes. I give it 4 stars is because to me it is really boring. But you as a tourist that's all what you want.

I'd been told that you couldn't get a bus up the hill to visit this worthy attraction...not true. And yes, it is worth the trek up. Etched in the stairs and walls around the monument are portraits of various CA veterans who have served our nation. The cross has been a source of controversy, but we were very happy to see it lifted high above the cityscape. I was also told that this is also a site from which Charles Lindbergh initiated a famous glider flight.
