Five of us (three adults and two children) tried to get a table on the rooftop terrace (third floor) for lunch, but it was full with a crowd waiting for seats. We went over to look at the Pacific Ocean view, which was lovely, but I doubt it was visible to all tables. It was an extremely hot day for La Jolla with a sizzling sun so I was not the least bit displeased to go down to the second floor to dine at George's Bar. All the balcony seating was taken so we ate indoors, and the air conditioning was wonderful.
I ordered the marinated and grilled fresh fish tacos (corn tortillas) with jalapeno lime mayonnaise, California avocado, cilantro and shredded cabbage. The fish was delicious but the mayonnaise had a real bite to it, which detracted immensely from the overall taste. The other two adults had the special -- grilled yellow tail with fresh vegetables. They both pronounced the fish nicely cooked with good flavor. One child (age 9), who rarely eats more than half a meal, ordered a burger and actually finished the whole thing. The other (age 7) ordered penne but was not as happy with that and left quite a bit.
Essentially, we ate at a place famous for its view but didn't see it while dining. Overall, the food was good but quite pricey. We could have gotten the same quality for less elsewhere without a view.
