“Good Food; Couldn't See the View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2014

Five of us (three adults and two children) tried to get a table on the rooftop terrace (third floor) for lunch, but it was full with a crowd waiting for seats. We went over to look at the Pacific Ocean view, which was lovely, but I doubt it was visible to all tables. It was an extremely hot day for La Jolla with a sizzling sun so I was not the least bit displeased to go down to the second floor to dine at George's Bar. All the balcony seating was taken so we ate indoors, and the air conditioning was wonderful.

I ordered the marinated and grilled fresh fish tacos (corn tortillas) with jalapeno lime mayonnaise, California avocado, cilantro and shredded cabbage. The fish was delicious but the mayonnaise had a real bite to it, which detracted immensely from the overall taste. The other two adults had the special -- grilled yellow tail with fresh vegetables. They both pronounced the fish nicely cooked with good flavor. One child (age 9), who rarely eats more than half a meal, ordered a burger and actually finished the whole thing. The other (age 7) ordered penne but was not as happy with that and left quite a bit.

Essentially, we ate at a place famous for its view but didn't see it while dining. Overall, the food was good but quite pricey. We could have gotten the same quality for less elsewhere without a view.

“Not so bad as review, but......”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2014

Was recommended; tried it; somewhat disappointed. Must have reservations. Sent downstairs to their other venue; not nearly as asthetic, but okay. Menu was strange; all is a-la-cart and pricey. Would I come back? If I had a reservation, so we could dine upstairs, with views of bay. Never saw their menu up there; if it was the same, probably would walk away. Must say tho' that the service was good; manager greeted us. Hmmmm, maybe.

“Excellent View of the Pacific....Food is good...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2014

This restaurant came highly recommended from and artist at Seaport Village in San Diego. It is located about 18 miles from downtown San Diego and is definitely worth the drive. We could not get seated on the roof top, but were seated in the bar, which was wonderful. We had a "sea side" table. The view of the Pacific Ocean is amazing.

Staff was friendly and the food was okay. There are appetizers, entrees and desserts to choose from. On the menu, it says for the bar, that to sit at the seaside table, each guest must spend at least $15 minimum. The entrée menu runs from $20 - $32. The portions of the food are decent. But we did not come for the food, we came for the meal.

You won't be disappointed if you want to dine seaside. My wife and I both had the salmon. It was her birthday and the waitress gave her a small complimentary bottle of extra virgin olive oil for dining there.

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. It is best not to bring small children. This is definitely a place that should be adult only.

“Great view”

Great view and good food. Sunset is particularly lovely and they serve dinner from 4:30. May have to wait a bit.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2014

I was here twice in 2 days.
Started off with an amazing, New American dinner at George's modern. Crowded as always, but as long as you have a reservation, you'll be fine. 75% of the dishes were really good, but there were some that just didn't work too well. The prices are high, but worth the experience. Good beer/wine list and most importantly, maybe THE BEST Bloody Mary ever! The waiter/bartender was kind enough to share the recipe (based off their own pepper infused vodka and Zing Zang).

The Bloody's were soo good, we came back 2 days later for lunch on the rooftop. Also, we were looking for their famed Fish Tacos, which are created differently for the Modern vs. the roof. We reserved a table right when they opened and so glad we did. They were packed on every table within minutes (Wed morning). Fun drinks, Amazing view, and great service.

This is a must visit restaurant if in La Jolla (or even if you're in SD!)
