We really liked this place, we'd go back again, and we'd recommend it to our friends, but what we found charming may not work for everyone. First of all, even though we knew there was no A/C, and it's really not needed in San Diego, I did not know that Redwood Hollow was in - well - an actual Hollow. Which means that even with several windows open, the air is very still, and the ceiling fan needs to be run continually. The location is good, but not great. It's at least a half mile walk to downtown, shops, restaurants and beaches, but it IS fairly centrally located, and the walk down Prospect is lined with well-tended gardens, so it's a pretty walk. The parking spots on site are at the bottom of a steep narrow driveway, so we chose to park on the street and, once again, not being afraid of a small walk, we had no problems finding free legal parking. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, as we had the opportunity to speak with them a few times before booking, and they answered all questions during our stay. They even set aside beach chairs and umbrellas for us. It would've been nice if they were in the office when we checked in, but after texting the number on the note on the window, and going for a twenty minute walk, we were let into the Whispering Sands cottage, which was right at the front of the property, right next to the parking spots, and attached to two other units. So, did we hear people parking, and slamming car doors? Yes (I watched one woman go from one side of her SUV to the other, moving things around in her car, opening and closing both doors on both sides four times. Seriously.) Did we hear people going upstairs on the connected property? Yes. Did we hear kids get up at 6:30 and tearing around the wooden reverberating floors? Yes. Was this anything that was in our control or the staff? No. But if we go back, there is another small cottage in the back of the property that is more isolated and not attached to any others, and I didn't get the name of it, but its number is 242.

One last thing: There is only one supermarket in town, Von's, and they charge an arm and a leg for everything. If you have a car, go ANYWHERE else. Seriously. 12 pack of diet pepsi at Von's: $6.29. 12 pack at CVS, a block away? $3.33. And Ralph's on Mission Blvd. in Pacific Beach is only 4 miles away.

Room Tip: Get a free-standing cottage to cut down on noise from other guests.

This is an amazing cottage & we are currently here for three days. Just arrived yesterday so we have more enjoyable time left here. Lovely and very service minded women have taking care of us. You could stay forever at this charming place with such an amazing garden. The rooms are great and La Jolla is a dream come true. We are so much looking forward to the rest of our stay here and the future stays - we already plan to return. Yesterday we saw seals on the beach & the beach is fantastic. Many wonderful and nice restaurants are close by and the area is very safe and calm. However some nice parties were held at various restaurants and hotels yesterday evening.

Stayed for two nights in a little cottage, extremely clean and well mantained. The owner showed us around and explained what to visit in La Jolla, really lovely lady. I can recommend to stay here as it its very close to all the attractions, quiet and peaceful place to stay. Coffee and cookies provided complementary in the room.

Cottages are absolutely amazing. Walking distance to everything nearby including beach. Also love the full kitchen and BBQ area in front. Staff is amazing. Definitely coming back and staying here on my visits.

This place is just gorgeous, we stayed 3 nights but wish we had longer. Loved the little courtyard and all the gardens. Super comfy bed and all the facilities you'll need. I did think there would be breakfast as it's called a B&B but they don't actually advertise it, I just assumed. There are plenty of places to eat nearby though and a supermarket close by too. Just a short walk to the beach, rock pools and seals. Would recommend to any couples wanting a beach getaway.
