Description: Manhattan of La Jolla transports you to the best of New York via the cozy, upscale village of La Jolla. Located in the Empress Hotel on Fay Avenue, it is an elegant, casual and classy place where you would expect to see Old Blue Eyes or Danny Ocean romancing a beautiful woman while she sips her Cosmo over dinner. With quality Italian charm, Manhattan offers classic cocktails that get you into that New York swing--and the entrees are as good as it gets. Liberal olive oil, garlic, lemon and pepper complement the Zagat Award winning veal chop, steaks and seafood. Signature scampi, classic cannelloni, pasta al dente, and other succulent dishes, plus professional service and decor make this a terrific spot for a romantic dinner or mixing business and pleasure. Manhattan in La Jolla gets you the best of both worlds. Manhattan is an award winning La Jolla favorite, celebrating its 25th year.

“Great food, great service, and fun atmosphere.”
Reviewed January 2, 2010

This was a surprise right in the middle of La Jolla village. Had the veal chop for dinner and it was so good I made sure to go back for lunch the next day. The cannelloni I had for lunch was the best I've ever had. Not only is the food great but the atmosphere is really fun. Sinatra is playing in the background (or live Jazz at night) and you really get a "Manhattan" feel. Not easy to find - it is in the Empress Hotel - but worth looking for.

“Bring On Some Frank Sinatra and Truly Excellent Food”
Reviewed December 30, 2009

We visit La Jolla often and have stayed in the hotel that houses Manhattan, but for a variety of reasons, this trip was the first time we tried the hotel restaurant. Oh, what we have been missing!!!! The entire experience was "old school" with seasoned waiters in tuxedos, Brat Pack music filling the air, traditional Italian cuisine and an atmosphere that is traditional and fun.

The menu has veal, fish, poultry, steaks and a variety of traditional pasta dishes. Our group had a veal dish, the steak with garlic and lemon, and the angel hair with shrimp in spicy red sauce. The service was great, the wait staff attentive and fun, and the bartender met our every need. The meal was excellent in every way....the food was wonderful and the experience was that of an adult Disneyland of Italian food in an era gone by. We loved it!

We had such fun at our first dinner, we went to Manhattan AGAIN the very next night! This time we tried the linguini in clam sauce, a few small appetizers and the steak. Again. The experience was just as fun the second time around, and the food just as good.

Give this old school establishment a try. I promise you will enjoy the food immensely and will delight in the ambiance and experience overall. I can't wait to go back!!! You will spend some coin, but it's no different than any other higher quality restaurant in la Jolla or anywhere else. And, overall, the experience is so good that the price still makes it a great value.

“A taste of "old New York" in La Jolla”
Reviewed October 17, 2009

It is called the Manhattan because the qwner came from there and brought this NYC concept. Greast Italian food and soft jaz on weekends. We tried various veal and pasta dishes and found them all excellent. House wine by the bottle is a great value, plus balance of wine list is very extensive. Nice soft atmosphere, great service, certain salads still made tableside. Booths are very comfortable. Hope to come back

“Only customers that night. Felt like Royalty”
Reviewed September 23, 2009

We were seeing our son off to college. After reading reviews, we decided to dine at Manhattan in La Jolla Village. Get good directions before driving, because we had a difficult time finding La Jolla Village. This is a beautiful Italian restaurant inside a hotel. Very "old school." My husband is a 3rd generation Italian, born in New York, so he gives his praise very reluctantly. He, my son and I were all very pleased. Our waiter was from the Trieste near Venice and gave us some travel recommendations for our upcoming trip to Italy. The bread was perfect. We ordered the Caesar salad for two, split three ways. It was made from scratch, including the dressing, right at our table. My husband had the lobster ravioli special in vodka sauce, I ordered their Mama's special and my son had the bolognese. We were all delighted. Pasta was served al dente with just the right amount of sauce. We had read about their outstanding tiramisu and so were disappointed when they were out. Next time.
