“Did not disappoint.”

Went on my own 8am last Sunday after reading reviews on trip advisor. Had the coffee and eggs Benedict. It was superb and very filling. The staff were great, the food matched. Left at 9am and there was already a line for outside. If you want to eat in this great spot, then get there early..

“Very, very disappointing... bye, bye $57”
Reviewed October 22, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I spend several days every month or so here in La Jolla, and always check to see if there are any new restaurants to add to our usual favorites. This trip, based on Cody's TripAdvisor rating, we decided to try a place we had seen over the years, but never tried.

We both ordered the same item; the Lobster Roll. So this review will be confined to those two sandwiches. The Lobster Roll is served on a delicious, very thick cut, fresh brioche "bun" generously stuffed with what appeared to be whole lobster claws mixed with a very small amount of aioli with one or two large limp green onion tops. It was quite dry, but more importantly had a very strong fish odor - and taste - and had several bits of hard sharp shell (?) in it. Because of the smell I was afraid to eat more than a couple of bites for fear it was not fresh. My husband ate a bit more of his and had the same complaints. The pieces of lobster, because they were large claws left whole, were quite tough and rubbery. The Lobster Roll is served with French Fries and Cole Slaw. I believe the fries were house-made and were well seasoned and tasted fine. The Cole Slaw was rather dry and bland and for that reason, while not bad, was not particularly good.

The place has a young vibe and a lovely location near the ocean. For some reason the servers (and the hostess) acted as though they were annoyed to have to put up with the pesky customers who were bothering them when they clearly had other more elevated activities they would rather be doing. We sat inside and had the dubious pleasure of watching the wait staff coming and going from the kitchen area, and in the entire time we were there we saw only one waiter smile. Twice! Same waiter. How sad when so many young people (and others) are desperate for work. Gosh folks, fake it! That's what we did when we pleasantly sat there and never said a word about your poor attitude and how disappointing our lunch was.

Would we give Cody's another try? Well, while there are several interesting sounding items on the menu we would definitely have liked to try at another time, I doubt it. There are just so many great places to eat in La Jolla, why take a chance?

Oh, almost forgot: two Lobster Roll sandwiches, one soda and a water, with generous tip - just under $60.

“Beautiful View and Great French Toast”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We love the food and view at Cody's. I recommend getting a seat around the corner for a great view of La Jolla Cove. The food is fantastic. I had eggs with a side of tomatoes and greens, and was pleasantly surprised by the farm fresh produce. We also ordered the french toast, and it was the best french toast I have ever had. Absolutely delicious.
