We weren't in La Jolla long enough to enjoy dinner at Roppongi as we had other reservations on all the nights of our stay. But we'd heard good things about the restaurant and noticed it was jam packed every night. So one evening, after a not so great meal at another La Jolla restaurant, we sauntered in a little before 9:00 to see if they'd be willing to let us enjoy only dessert and after dinner beverages. Yes indeed, they would and we enjoyed a great dessert (a sauteed banana dish served with gelato and under a crust of caramelized almonds - we recommend it!) and beverages. We'll go back for dinner, on the outdoor patio, if we make another trip to La Jolla.

This is one terrific restaurant. The food is amazing and interesting. The service great. The prices are very reasonable. My husband and I went there twice on a recent trip to San Diego. We brought my son back the second time. It was every bit as good as the first. I wish it were closer to NJ. Try the tapas and sushi!

My husband and I visited the Roppongi for the first time to celebrate his Birthday. We ordered from the unusual Tappas Menu. We ordered 5 different items with drinks and were pleasantly surprised with each and every dish. They were decorated beautifully and the food ingredients are very creative. Not your usual sushi place. There is no ocean view but they do offer outdoor patio seating. The ambience is good and the waiters are very polite. The food was top notch and for those who want to sample unusual dishes - we recommend it highly!

We've been to the Roppongi several times. Food can be interesting. Based on our most recent visit, I'm no longer interested. The "crab stack" was good and interesting. No problem with that. We had reservations again and were seated (in an empty room which stayed empty) at a booth just at the entry to the kitchen. Constant parade of waiters in front of us, shouted "corner" each time they entered or left the kitchen area. Service was poor and inattentive by what I suppose was our main service person. The chocolate (so called "requires 20 minutes") dessert which took 3 minutes was pretty flavorless. Could have used a little good chocolate for $9.50, although the accompanying gelato or ice cream scoop was decent.

If you go there, skip the dining room. Sit in the bar area and pay less and get better service, apparently.

A must visit if you're looking for excellent food and a happening scene - very few restaurants can pull off both. Try the Mongolian duck quesadilla or the crabstack - great for sharing so you can try a few things. Also, the ahi crab napoleon is excellent (but you won't want to share it!). All this great food is half-price at happy hours - you can't go wrong.
