“Great Time.”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

We had a wonderful time at the Estancia La Jolla. We had never stayed there before, and it was so great. As we arrived they offered us sparkling wine and water, took us to our room which was lovely, and showed us around. We took advantage of the free arrival margaritas, as low point, as I think they forgot the tequila!, but it was a nice offer. We also used the jacuzzi which was clean and nice in the evening with candles and a fire in the pool area. Everyone was super friendly, and the facilities were great, although they were being re-modeled at the time, which wasn't the best. We ate at Adobe El Restaurante for breakfast which was absolutely delightful. We would definitely recommend a visit to this charming hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fantastic review. I’m glad you had a chance to enjoy things like the whirlpool and breakfast in Adobe El Restaurante. You will have to come back and visit the Spa next time, it is going to look great after the enhancement project is complete in just a couple more weeks!

We had never stayed a the Estancia before and thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. The meals were supperb and the accomodations were first class. The staff was always smiling and helpful. You have to try the Estancia for your next get away.

Very clean and excellent service from everyone. Room was spacious and everything worked well. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Value was especially good with a corporate rate. The property itself is lovely with a real spanish feel. The garden area with its mini-wonderfall was also a nice treat. I didn't eat there but I understand the food to be quite good. Concierge was very helpful with breakfast suggestions off property.

Room Tip: facing the garden is rather quiet

This beautifully landscaped oasis is staffed with a fabulous team of kind and professional folks who always make us feel at home from the moment we drive up to reception. We've stayed there numerous times in 2012 after taking a seminar at the resort in 2011.

I cannot say enough about the lovely people who make this colonial Spanish hacienda the best place to stay in all of San Diego county! Wish I could live there year around.....:-)

Room Tip: I am not a Wifi fan, and am so happy that their rooms are also equipped with ethernet connections. T...

We had such a great time right after the Christmas parties and family gatherings at work, home. We had a beautiful room in the new decorated section, the food at Mustangs & Burros was delicious. We enjoyed our champagne at the front desk very much:) The breakfast was delicious I had the Bread pudding which we were told by Jose that this will take a while to bake, we were fine and looked forward to the bread pudding. It was a Frittata made with Crossants ..yum.
Gaby the concierge was very helpful and gave us some information for a possible wedding for our daughter. Later that evening we returned to our room to a bottle of Cabernet wine. We were very grateful to the all of the staff at the Estancia Hotel and we look forward to returning to this wounderful hotel. I almost forgot the front desk lady Erica was intuned to all of our needs, and the vallet young man made sure we had a map to our next location and gave us some water bottles for our journey. You all are very considerate. Thank you again.

Room Tip: Book early, we had a room in the garden area

Please let us know if we can help with your daughter’s wedding, our Catering team is absolutely fabulous. Just give us a call when you are ready. (PS I’m definitely craving the breakfast bread pudding now!)

Great location, setting, valet and housekeeping staff, but that's where the compliments stop, unfortunately.

A group of seven of us booked a four night stay a month in advance for a Birthday/New Year's Eve celebration at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa; knowing ahead of time there would be no spa accommodations due to a renovation. On our check-in day, we found out the pool and jacuzzi area were also closed. In light of this, the front desk offered a piece of paper with a list of nearby pools, spas and the ocean as alternatives.

The front desk staff also offered to find us another hotel in the area. Upgrades? Consolations? Considerations? Not offered… we had to ask for them. Unfortunately, we were in a bind as it was last minute. We agreed to three rooms upgraded with a "balcony," free parking, drink tickets and the "Hospitality Services Fee" waived, which made sense with the majority of services unavailable. Our room was average, with a balcony overlooking a sidewalk and a tall hedge.

After checking in, we discover our credit card and name were switched by the front desk with our friends' room. Our other friends' room had two beds for a friend coming to stay with them over the weekend on Sunday. Imagine our surprise that Sunday when we walk into our room and find the friend is half naked, asleep in our bed. After coming back from a long bike ride, we were really looking forward to freshening up and relaxing, but the front desk gave our friends' friend the wrong room. We asked the front desk about this and the manager Gabe just shook it off and chalked it up to "a lot of confusion with our names and room assignments."

The eve of New Year's Eve. We needed a place to chill with our friends after 10pm. The Library room was offered to us as an option by Gabe, as hanging with friends in our room is frowned upon after 10pm. Less than ten minutes after entering the Library, security guard Billy informed us that we had to leave. My wife went to the front desk to complain, as the Library is offered to all guests as an available space. Front desk staff had to call manager Gabe at home to authorize use of the room. No apology from security.

New Year's Eve 9pm dinner and my wife's birthday. After placing our order, we had to ask for bread at our table of seven. It took an hour and a half to get our appetizers; diners who arrived after us were already eating their entrees. One of our friends literally went back to her room to get something to eat. By 11pm, I wasn't able to finish my meal as I waited too long to eat and my stomach was hurting. Suffice to say, by 11:15pm, I wasn't in the mood for dessert.

At checkout, we spoke with the manager on duty, Jonessa. With Jonessa, we finally met a front desk member at Estancia who listened, seemed genuinely concerned and was shocked with our experience. Without asking, Jonessa took care of one of our days at the hotel.

This is my experience at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa during one of the most important times of the year with my wife and friends. It was a memorable stay, but for all the wrong reasons.

Room Tip: Wait until renovations are fully complete.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for the personal letter to our operations team. Again, we sincerely apologize for your experience over the weekend and we hope to hear back from you soon so we may extend further apologies and explain that your experience is certainly not indicative of our culture. Please know that I have discussed your feedback with the Executive staff and we will revisit a few policies and procedures to ensure we do not repeat the same mistakes.

This is a large hotel and despite website that entices you to think this as a small 'holiday resort' it is a large hotel. Rooms are big and clean but everything is miles away. One negative I need to mention is the wait for breakfast service. It wold take me less time to hatch two eggs myself and cook them then it took them to serve. I think it is unacceptable o have to wait 45 minutes every morning to have your breakfast served when there are no other guests dining.
