This place makes the best tacos ever. If you like basic tacos made 100% how they should be without pineapple, honey or any of the things hat take away from tacos this is the place. I would advise getting the 3 tacos not just two. Meat is marinated perfectly and is is all held together in a nest of well cooked cheese. For a spectacular taco experience stop reading this review and run to puesto! :)

We came here after kayaking in La Jolla Cove. We tried 4 kinds of the tacos - pork, chicken, shrimp, and salmon. They were all very good, so fresh and flavorful. My husband loved the chicken, and my favorite was the grilled shrimp. We also tried the fresh guacamole and chips - very tasty. Don't order the sides of rice or beans - both were very bland. But this place is the best - I wish we had one close by - I'd probably eat here for lunch every day!

Very refreshing change from your regular Mex fare of Burritos and enchiladas. They make everything fresh in their open kitchen, including the tortillas for the tacos and had very interesting filling options like cactus, hibiscus, potatoes etc - which were quite new and unusual to me. They way they make the tacos is very interesting too, using melted grated cheese as a base to put the filling on. I actually tried that at home later and it was a huge success. We had some tacos and shared a taco bowl , both of which are highly recommended. The prices are very moderate and the ambiance was nice too. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the beaches of La Jolla.

The tacos were worth the trip. I have potato soy chorizo with cheese. Great. The salsa was not picante like they said but good for gringos. The chicken was great too. Try the horchata. It's frozen with wonderful flavor.

With all of the Baja Style Mexican restaurants in San Diego this truly stands out as very authentic Mexican cuisine. I would categorize the food as very authentic to Mexico City which I believe has some of the most flavorful dishes in the world. What I love about Puesto is that you head to the counter and basically create your own dish while a Chef grills it right in front of your eyes. The ingredients are super fresh and you feel like for once your eating healthy when your eating Mexican food.

The ambience is awesome here. It's got an urban style and the fire doors open up so you get this great feeling like your inside and outside at the same time. You have to try this place to see what you're missing with real Mexican food.
