Owner description: San Diego's most desirable spot for swimming, diving and snorkeling. The water is calm and the cove is ecologically protected. There is also a world famous dive site that is located in the La Jolla ecological preserve.

“Beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

The views were spectacular. We looked down and saw the ocean, rock formations, birds and seals. The only negative was the strong unpleasant odor- was told from bird droppings.

“Gorgeous Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

This is one of the most famous California beaches. It's not as big as Mission beach which is further south or Coronado beach, but is far more beautiful. The waves hit against the huge uneven boulders forming sprays and the view from the cove during sunset is awesome. There is very less real sandy beach, so I don't believe this is very good place to come for a bath. Most of the little sands are occupied by the extremely noisy sea lions. You can still have a nice family picnic at Scripps park if you'd like to.
Parking near the beach on a weekend at dusk can be a nightmare. We parked at nearby Torrey Pines road for free and walked down to the shores. There are several nice seafood restaurants nearby if you fancy dinner on your way back.

“Must see in La Jolla”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

Waves crashing, ocean as far as eye can see, rugged cliffs, caves, and beaches and top all of that, sea lions, lots of them! This is a must stop for a casual stroll along the ocean. There is plenty of parking and walking right up the hills takes you to the shops, where a stop at the gelato shop after the walking, is a perfect end to the perfect spot. Best things in the world are free!

Be sure to visit the cove - see the tide pools (low tide) and the sea lions! The waves are beautiful crashing on the rocks(high tide)

“What a nature show!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

As we parked our car, and were following the signs to this cove, we heard barking. Not like dogs, but louder and much more hoarse.

Sea Lions! EVERYWHERE! Basking in the sun, playing with the swimmers in the surf, and floating on the waves, with their flippers up in a big 'Hello'. And barking, barking, barking!

This is a small part of the coast that should not be missed...it's protected, and many sorts of sea animals come here. Pelicans, Cormorants, Gulls, and Pigeons also flock here, knowing that the creatures on 2 legs (people) will not harm them.

A sign explains a fishing boat floating just off shore. This is sponsored by Scripps Institute and is a 'catch and release' project to log fish native to the area.

If you are driving up the coast, stop here and visit....La Jolla is just up the way with plenty of shops and tasty things to nibble on.
