Tiana Ravden and Her Mother in Law, Linda Ravden created a beautiful cosy and yet very elegant Dining ambiance in this old La Jolla Building, Consisting of an outside area, inside Restaurant and Bar.
Our waiter Brian explained us the Happy Hour and Specials and let us taste the difference of
Sauvignion Blancs and Sancerre.
Amazingly tasteful Mussles on a white wine creams sauce and mushroom.
Friendly atmosphere and dinner entertainment with a single musician made our evening memorable.

Signage is not very good but the food and service is worth the effort to find it. Lots of locals know and visit Finch's as the place was busy and reservations are recommended.

Finch's Wine Bar & Bistro is tucked away on Girard Ave in a quiet and inviting space. Who needs an ocean view with the charming romantic ambiance offered at Finch's coupled with an excellent menu, perfectly prepared dishes and all at reasonable prices. For an added treat stop by when soft sound entertainment is offered: Tuesdays, Friday & Saturdays. John Cain who plays on Tuesday's, apparently also plays at Eddie V's.

There is ample courtyard dining in addition to indoor dining and a separate bar area. This place is a great spot for the couples or friends wanting to have a conversation while dining. On the night we dined we found the service to be very attentive and well paced.

It is quite close to Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church- so brunch after Mass is another possible way to enjoy this establishment.

Finch's wine bar is an oasis of calm in the contemporary 200 decibel current dining scene. There is plenty of outdoor seating along with the indoor, and a bar area presided over by a knowledgeable and personable bartender, Sterling. In the evenings on the weekends there is an acoustic guitar player who provides soft, background music.
My favorites are the mushroom pate, the grilled baja shrimp, the salmon, and on my last visit, the days special which was a seared halibut.
The staff is very friendly, and the owners keep a close eye on everything. This is a great place to go when you want a relaxing evening and want to be able to converse with your dining companions. It's also great to go solo, as Sterling is very friendly and conversant.

We stumbled upon this place when visiting Ark Antiques on Girard (virtually next door). It has a narrow alleyway entrance with tables and a small courtyard, leading to the winebar/restaurant.
For dog owners, the big plus is that dogs are permitted on the tables on the street-side of the fountain.
Since we discovered it, we have eaten lunch here 3 times now. I see that they provide live music, but I guess that is in the evening.
The decor is lovely (black, white and yellow color scheme) and the place has a nice feel to it. It is very popular with locals.
Food-wise, their signature white bean and butternut soup is DELICIOUS.
During my last visit, I paired it with a bacon and egg salad which was just OK. The romaine lettuce is 'grilled' according to the menu but some of it is charred. I find that strange and probably won't order it again. My husband also commented on it during a previous visit, so I guess in our house, the jury is out regarding whether it is tasty or trendy to incinerate your lettuce!
Previously, we have ordered mussels (different every day but the chef kindly agreed to produce some which were not on the daily Specials).
The service is attentive and good. The owner walks around and checks everything is OK. They also provide a caraffe of water for each table, so you don't need to wait to have your water glass refilled.
We will certainly visit here again - maybe for dinner - and steer clear of charcoal romaine!!
