It is our honeymoon!!!!!! That being said let me begin from the beginning. When we got here and let the front desk know about our honeymoon they instantly hooked us up with champagne, 2 not cheap breakfast vouchers and validated our parking for 24 hours. That was OUR first impression of this wonderful place and it's staff. Each day has been simply perfect due to the almost overly friendly and helpful staff, oh ya and the place is on the BEACH!! Ocean front room is a must, waking up to the waves crashing right outside our balcony has been absolutely serene. Tomorrow? In-room massages but tonight.... Jacuzzi and a movie. Oh and to this guy and his new wife these rooms are not "dated", some of these submitters simply don't know what quality in simplicity is.

We reserved two beachfront rooms for 3 nights through Travelocity. We arrived Wednesday, 4/9. We had asked for top floor rooms which were not guaranteed but we had high hopes that we would receive them. Well, we were given 1st floor rooms so we were intially disappointed. There was road construction near the hotel which they could not help and our friends' room had a huge backhoe sitting dead center in their beachfront view. Our friends were very upset. Our room had the equipment to the left so if we looked out from the bed, our view was great.

The hotel manager and staff apologized for the inconvenience and moved us to a different side of the hotel on the top floor with a coastline view. Our friends stayed on this side but we preferred our 1st floor room view better so we stayed put.

As others have stated, this hotel is a little dated but we loved it. The staff was great. The view was great once the equipment moved a day later. The room was roomy and clean. The robes were a very nice perk. We loved the location. We could walk to restaurants and the Hike, Bike, Kayak office. We would definitely stay here again.

SPECIAL NOTE: The staff contacted our friends later the same day as check-in and offered a beachfront room for Thursday and Friday but our friends opted to same in the coastline view room.

Room Tip: The coastline view rooms are noisy due to the park next door. We stayed in room 140 (Beachfront) and...

We planned a quick getaway for a wedding and chose this hotel by the website description and photos. It is clean enough, but really needs to be closed down and renovated if they want to charge these rates. Reminded me of an old villa type hotel I stayed at in LA for $87. Bought a beach front room online for $216, but got an "updated reservation" email a couple days before quoting $389 per night, I ignored it, but good try. I printed my original email and had it in hand. The room was seriously overpriced at $216. We did have a nice view of the ocean and a nice private deck early morning and late night, but by 9 am the beachfront was consumed by Large tourist kayakers. It seemed like it would be a great place to take kids, but I'm sure you could find something equal for less. Walls extremely thin, decor cheap and tacky. Just not a nice place.

This is an awesome hotel right on the beach in La Jolla. The La Jolla beach is a very active one with surfers, joggers, walkers, kayak rentals, scuba divers. It is really fun if you like a lot of activity. Don't expect quiet solitude. The hotel had really nice beds. We had a coastal view which a side view down the beach. A beach front view is also available for more money. The coastal view was just great. Each room has a balcony with plenty of room to sit or set out beach wear to dry. The beach services at the hotel go out and set up an umbrella, beach chairs and towels on the beach for you. Then you just leave them at the end of the day and they come out and pick everything up at the end of the day. The beach village is just a couple blocks away with lots of shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Definitely splurge on either the coastal or beach front view. Well worth the money.

After reading some of the reviews of this hotel on this site, we were a bit worried that we had made a mistake, but we were pleasantly reassured by our stay at this hotel. First the downsides: Yes, there was some noise from the construction out on the street, certainly not the hotel's fault, and when we asked to be moved away from the street hotel staff immediately relocated us to a quieter room with a view of the beach. Yes, the restaurant is expensive, but the food was excellent, and besides we didn't choose this hotel for the restaurant but for the location. The only real negative we experienced occurred a few days in to our one week stay when a family with kids who screamed from the time they woke in the morning until they went to sleep at night (literally) moved next door. Again, not the hotel's fault but the irresponsible parents. Positives (and there are a lot of them): The public spaces are beautiful, the beach is steps away, the pool area is lovely, the staff is courteous and responsive, and the rooms are large providing plenty of room for my daughter, teenaged granddaughter and me. And the views and sunsets are beautiful. I suppose the rating one gives to any hotel is related to one's expectations. We very much enjoyed our stay at the La Jolla Shores Hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street construction although that is unlikely to last indefinitely. Se...

We have two toddlers and this is the best place we have ever stayed for kids to have fun. We stayed in room 134 which is on the ground floor, beachfront. Super convenient to the beach, the kids play-park next door, to restaurants, surf shops, etc. They set-up beach chairs and umbrellas, and even found us some boogie boards to use. I saw some criticisms on trip advisor about room cleanliness and smells. Our room was super clean and smelled just fine. Quite frankly, with the amount of sand which comes back into the room with us, I'm amazed how clean the room is. We thougtht it would be nice to sleep with the windows open to listen to the surf. It was great until about 5 am when the beach cleaning crews arrived from the city. When else are they gong to do it? So we shut the windows for the next night, turned on the a/c fan and slept great.

We will be back.

Room Tip: We were in room 134 right on the beach. Great location.

This was the last stop on our family spring break adventure in Southern California. It was absolutely our favorite, Our room looked out over the pool and the ocean just beyond. Sleeping on the comfortable beds each night, with our balcony door open listening to the ocean was heaven. The hotel has a great pool, work-out room and one of our favorite was the ping pong tables. As an ocean front hotel, we enjoyed sitting along the boardwalk watching the sunset.

The hotel has a free shuttle that will take you to/from the downtown area. I recommend going into town and walking along the oceanfront walk and see the beautiful coast line complete with the seals.

Come and stay here and let all your worries go away.
