My husband and I stayed 3 nights there and had a nice relaxing stay. The staff was accommodating when we asked to switch rooms due to the loud city construction on the South side of the building. We lucked out and got the bottom floor corner room (Rm 134) with ocean front view. The patio literally wrapped around the room an we enjoyed people watching, we liked watching the daily surfer lessons. The hotel is located about 3 miles away from what I would call downtown La Jolla where the majority of restaurants and shops are. They provided a free shuttle van (we tipped of course) daily until 10pm. There are still some great restaurants within walking distance that we loved! We ate at The Shores hotel restaurant one evening and the food was delicious! The prices were high but it was worth it for the table with ocean view and convenience of walking a few steps from our room. The staff was amazing!! Always so helpful and suggested some fun things for us to do/eat while we were there.

Room Tip: The ocean front room is well worth it at this hotel, you will enjoy the people watching and up close...

This hotel was wonderful. The location was great for busy days in San Diego and then unwinding in La Jolla. It is right on the beach, near the boardwalk and near lots of shopping and dining. Our room was 'ocean-view' and on the north side of the building. It faced Kellogg park. Kellogg park is bustling early in the morning with scuba divers, surfers, joggers, etc. It was Feb. and the place was packed by 6:30 a.m. It was really fun to people watch. If you like to sleep in and/or are a light sleeper you may want to consider a room on the south of the hotel. The restaurant was stellar and the views were unbelievable. We ordered room service one night and it was quick and very good. The front desk was really helpful with touristy questions. Our room was just OK, it probably is due for a remodel soon. We stayed at a chain hotel our last night to be closer to the airport. The chain hotel actually had nicer furnishings, TV, decor , etc.

Room Tip: South side of the building but ask about construction there. Rooms with ocean view did have a good v...

We had a garden view room on 3rd floor and could see the Pacific Ocean from our room. Friendly staff, nice quite room. Enjoyed lounging around--our room, the patio/balcony outside the room, the garden, the pool area, or down on the beach, walking barefoot in the sand or sitting on the walkway people watching. Really appreciated the free shuttle service within La Jolla (tipped the driver, of course), although the number 30 city bus also got us to the La Jolla Village (as well as downtown San Diego) and back for low fare. Free Wi Fi was also a plus. They have restaurants and a convenience store just a couple blocks away from hotel if you want to stay in the immediate area. Didn't eat at the hotel's restaurant as a bit expensive for our taste ($11+ for an egg, really?), but saw that children under a certain age ate free, so may be a plus for some. Area is great for water sports, including surfing and kayaking. Saw a lot of scuba divers as well.

Room Tip: The "spa" in the pool area was very small, and didn't look very deep. Didn't rate...

Aside from our first room's mildew smell, and loud construction, the Shores Hotel was really nice. We had a fun family trip there. The staff was super accommodating, and let us move rooms quickly. The beach front views were awesome, the coffee bar, and the proximity to the beach was delightful. We all thoroughly enjoyed the ping-pong tables, too. What an unexpected and silly perk! Aside from the construction, it would have been a really quiet stay: ideal!

Rooms definitely need updating though: paint and decor. The linens and robes were excellent quality as were the beds, and other furniture.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money for a beach view room. Really worth it for beach watching, and people watching...

Had meeting in San Diego ( LA Jolla/Sorento area). I typically stay at Marriott resorts, and originally booked at Marriott La Jolla. Someone suggested I seek a property closer to Beach. Using tripadvisor I found the La Jolla Shores hotel, I was very happy with my choice. The hotel is right on the beach (there is only one more beach property called Tennis club next door). Hotel has happy hour with reduced price drinks and appetizer( 9 dollars instead of 13). With Ocean from setting. Rooms are big and comfortable, although a little outdated.
LA Jolla shores is a nice place, there are a few shops and a very Italian restaurant -austeria romantica.
We went snorkeling at La Jolla Cove ( 10 minute drive) and enjoyed the Garibaldi ( gold fish) and Seals.
An important factor in beach is weather, and first two days were cold and cloudy. But once the sun was out this beach is perfect for walks and sunset, so much so that we stayed a few extra days. We stayed at second floor garden view, room ( 217) and had pool and beach view-very nice.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 217 which is Garden view room- were very happy. Happy hour in hotel restaurant recom...

We picked the Shores in part for its location and its (relative) affordability. Yes, La Jolla is pricey.

We had a comfortable room. And although we were streetside, the hotel has installed a second door that isolates the room from the bath/closet area - and had the great effect of silencing street noise almost completely!

We had one dinner in the Shores restaurant with friends from La Jolla, and that was a very nice experience. Great food, great service.
